The corners of Max's lips curled up slightly. He reached out to wipe the remaining tears from her cheeks and softened his voice. "Do not make Anne worry."
Before Felicia could collect her chaotic emotions, Anne's cheerful voice rang out. "Daddy, Mommy." The little girl stopped in her tracks, instantly noticing her mother's red eyes. "Daddy you made Mommy cry." Anne huffed in disapproval. "Mommy, do you want me to help you teach Daddy a lesson?"
Max leaned over and picked up the flower crown that had fallen to the grass. He gently placed it back on Felicia's head before turning to his daughter and patting her little head. "Daddy did not make Mommy cry. Alright, Mommy is tired and needs to go back and rest. It is almost time for dinner anyway."
With that, Max swept Felicia up into his arms, carrying her effortlessly. "Is there anything special you want to eat tonight?" he asked.
Felicia averted her gaze and offered no reply. Max did not push for an answer, simply carrying her toward the house while Anne skipped happily alongside them.
Since dinner was not quite ready, Max brought Felicia back to her room and asked the nanny to help her wash up. He then stepped out into the hallway and closed the door behind him.
As he walked toward the living room, he was met by a furious Darin storming down the stairs. Without a word of warning, Darin closed the distance and drove a merciless punch directly into Max's face. Max did not even try to dodge. He took the brutal blow head on, stumbling back several steps from the sheer force of Darin's strike.
The butler and maids gasped in pure terror.
Max steadied himself and raised a hand to wipe the blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. Darin closed the gap in two massive strides, grabbing Max by the collar with gritted teeth. "Max, what the hell are you doing to my sister?!"
Max met Darin's furious glare with a perfectly calm expression. He reached up, grasping Darin's wrist, and shot back. "Why are you getting so worked up? She is perfectly fine."
Darin tightened his grip on the collar, his breathing heavy with rage. The terrifying aura radiating from him made it impossible for anyone to approach. The butler and staff could only watch in trembling silence, too afraid to intervene.
After a suffocating silence, Darin finally shoved Max away. "Max, I am warning you. You are not allowed to force her again. If you dare touch her, see what happens."
