Max stood by the car, watching closely as Felicia and Anne walked through the front doors of the villa. Once they were safely inside, he got back behind the wheel and drove away.
Greg was not at home today. Ava mentioned that he had finally managed to carve out some free time to go on a date with Heather.
"It is a miracle he actually found the time," Ava sighed happily. "I just hope he hurries up and settles down."
Felicia smiled warmly. "No matter how busy he is, as long as he cares, it will work out. Thankfully, Heather has plenty of free time to spend with him. Let them take things at their own pace, Mom. Do not put too much pressure on him."
"Of course I know that," Ava chuckled. "I am just feeling a bit sentimental. We will let nature take its course and see where their destiny leads."
"Exactly," Felicia agreed.
Inside the spacious living room, Colton and Ava sat chatting with Felicia. Anne was gleefully chasing Sean, around the furniture. Sean was nearly two years old and still waddled slightly as he ran. The entire house echoed with the bright, joyous laughter of the children.
Right as the family sat down to enjoy lunch, the maid rushed into the dining room in a panic.
"Sir! Madam! People from the court are here!"
The entire family froze in shock.
"What do they want?" Ava asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"I do not know, but they said they are looking for Colton."
Ava and Felicia instantly turned their eyes to Colton, who looked more bewildered than anyone else.
"Felicia, you stay here with the kids. Your father and I will go see what is going on," Ava instructed quickly.
But there was no way Felicia could just sit there. She asked the maid to watch Anne and Sean, then immediately followed her parents out of the dining room.
A group of court officials stood waiting in the living room, backed by several stern-looking law enforcement officers. Their aggressive, intimidating posture made it clear they were not there for a friendly chat. Colton and Ava stopped in their tracks, a terrible sense of foreboding washing over them. Colton felt a cold sweat break out on his neck, utterly clueless as to what catastrophic mistake he could have possibly made.
