Max glanced at Darin in the passenger seat and finally broke the silence. "We haven't reached a dead end yet. There is still a long future ahead of us."
Staring blankly through the windshield at the car ahead, Darin's expression remained rigid and numb. He offered no response.
Keeping his eyes on the road, Max continued. "You should have anticipated this outcome. Since that's the case, you need to face it and fix it. Sitting around like this will not solve anything."
A long moment passed before Darin finally spoke. "Sometimes I really envy your cold-blooded decisiveness. If Anne ever ends up hating you one day, I wonder if you will still be able to say such things with a straight face."
He let out a hollow, bitter laugh. "Of course, you would just say you despise hypothetical scenarios. You think everything will always be under your control, which is why you cannot even begin to comprehend how I feel right now."
Max gripped the steering wheel, his dark eyes unreadable as he stared straight ahead. He did not reply.
In the other car, Jeremy drove smoothly. Felicia turned her head to look out the window, remaining completely silent. Jeremy wanted to say something to comfort her, but he knew that words would be utterly useless right now.
