Max tightened his grip on her hand, his dark eyes locked intensely on hers. "Since the decision has been made, there is no room for regrets."
Felicia averted her gaze, choosing to stay silent rather than offer him a response.
When Anne woke up and learned about the upcoming wedding, her entire demeanor shifted. Just moments prior, she had been sulking about having to separate from her parents today. She had felt an anxious dread that they might drift apart again at any moment, not knowing when they would ever play together again as a family. But the second she heard her father's announcement, her little eyes lit up like stars.
"Daddy and Mommy are having a wedding?" Anne asked, her voice trembling with excitement.
Max gently patted her head. "Are you happy about that, Anne?"
Anne's eyes curved into joyous little crescents. "Yes, so happy!" She looked over at her mother, flashing a bright, toothy grin.
Seeing her daughter's radiant smile, Felicia could not help but let the corners of her own mouth lift.
Suddenly, Anne turned her curious gaze back to Max. "If Daddy and Mommy are having a wedding, did Daddy propose to Mommy yet?"
Max paused for a fraction of a second before answering smoothly, "I will prepare the proposal as soon as I finish my work and come back."
"Then you have to finish your work really fast and hurry back," Anne insisted.
"I will."
"And can I be the flower girl for the wedding?"
"Of course you can."
Overjoyed, Anne practically danced around the room. She planted a big kiss on her mother's cheek and then rushed over to kiss her father. Her parents were finally staying together for good. "I want to be with Daddy and Mommy forever and ever!"
In that moment, Felicia felt her daughter's absolute, unbridled joy. The cautious, overly sensitive demeanor the little girl usually carried was completely gone.
The butler soon had breakfast prepared. Fueled by her elation, Anne eagerly ate a few extra bread rolls.
"If you are full, do not force yourself to eat more," Felicia said, gently taking the remaining crumbs from the little girl's hand.
