The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 896

"Savannah has not woken up yet," the nanny replied.

Felicia nodded and slowly made her way to the bathroom.

By the time she finished soaking in the tub and brushing her teeth, she felt significantly more clear-headed.

The nanny returned, handing over her tablet. "Madam, it is a video call from Mr. Hawthorne."

Felicia stared at the connection screen for a long, silent moment. Finally, she took the tablet and pressed accept.

The man's handsome face instantly appeared on the screen. He was reclining against his headboard, wearing a silk pajama top. The slightly open collar revealed tempting glimpses of his collarbones and muscular chest.

Seeing her, Max immediately asked, "How much did you drink last night?"

Felicia carried the tablet into the walk-in closet. "Not much."

She propped the device on her vanity and picked up a brush, beginning to run it through her hair. Through the screen, Max's deep, piercing gaze locked onto her. He watched her pristine side profile as the wooden brush glided smoothly down her long tresses, subtly exposing the delicate, graceful curve of her neck. Lower down, the faint swell of her chest was just visible beneath her collar.

"Not much, huh? Do you happen to remember what you said last night?" he prompted.

Hearing that, Felicia's brushing slowed to a halt. She truly could not recall the specific details of what she had said, but she vaguely remembered unleashing a furious string of curses at him. She whipped her head around, glaring sharply at the man on the screen. What was he trying to imply with that question?

Max watched the confusion and defensive wariness flare in her eyes. His thin lips curved into a barely perceptible smirk as he pushed further. "You really do not remember?"

"Are you spying on me?" Felicia fired back. She was fully aware that the nanny occasionally reported back to Max, though she had never cared much before. Right now, however, she had zero interest in answering his interrogations.

Seeing her sudden flare of anger, Max merely chuckled softly. "I would hardly call it spying. I just needed to make sure that someone with a will as easily shaken as yours would not immediately revert to a cold war the moment she went back home."

Felicia frowned deeply, staring at the man on the screen. His uncanny ability to see right through all her hidden emotions infuriated her. She sharply averted her gaze. "You speak as if you know me perfectly."

"I would say I know you well enough," Max replied smoothly.
