Darin grabbed her wrist with one hand and firmly pulled it away from his jaw. His eyes darkened as he spoke, his tone completely serious. "Savannah, you have many excellent options out there. People always have to look forward."
Savannah stared intently at him, her eyes gradually pooling with red as her breathing grew increasingly ragged. "If I were capable of simply looking forward, I would probably be married with a son and daughter by now."
Darin looked at her, letting out a soft sigh. "You could try changing your environment. There is no need to constantly trap yourself."
"Are you planning on never getting married for the rest of your life?!" Savannah demanded.
Though she loathed to admit it, she had spent the past several years silently keeping tabs on his romantic life. After they broke up, Andrea's friends had shown interest in him, and Andrea had intentionally encouraged her to stick close to Darin. Her goal had been to use that friend to monitor whether any uncontrollable women appeared around him. Eventually, that particular friend's family ran into trouble, and she was sent abroad. But all these years, Darin had remained completely alone. And she remained the only woman who had ever been in his life.
She hated him, and that hatred had twisted into a deeply ingrained obsession. No matter how many other men she interacted with, or how wonderfully they treated her, she could not force herself to accept them. She inevitably found herself comparing them to Darin, desperately wondering why Darin could not treat her the way they did. In the end, she simply could not force herself to be with anyone else.
"I currently have no plans to marry," Darin answered plainly.
"Just currently?" Savannah pressed aggressively.
"It is getting late," Darin deflected. "You should go eat breakfast."
"Answer me!" Savannah demanded, refusing to back down.
"I am sorry. I cannot give you what you want."
When Felicia eventually came back downstairs, she found Savannah sitting on the sofa, head bowed and completely silent. She walked over gently. "What did he say to you?"
