Chapter 652 Wedding Reception

Judy’s POV

The reception was already in full swing by the time Gavina and I arrived.

Carter’s resort was nothing like its usual restaurant. All the tables and chairs have been pushed out of the way, creating a dance floor in the center of the place. Soft white drapes hang from the ceiling beams, fairy lights woven through them like tiny stars. Round tables filled the room, decorated with simple centerpieces of white roses and greenery.

It was all so warm and welcoming.

It was exactly what I wanted and how I imagined this wedding.

The moment we stepped inside, a cheer rose from the crowd, and the sound was so loud that it echoed through the halls, making it impossible for me not to smile. However, that knot in my stomach continued to tighten, and I knew it wouldn’t loosen until I saw Nan.

But even through the crowd, I couldn’t see her, and it only made me worry that much more. It wasn’t like she was going to leave without telling me she was going. Besides, part of the wedding party, she was supposed to be in the limo with us.

I felt Gavin’s warm hand on the small of my back, and I looked up at him. he was giving me a concerned look in return, though his expression was serene.

“Are you okay?” He asked, his voice soft enough for only my ears.

I nodded, though I was anything but okay. I was terrified that something might have happened to my best friend, and I’m not sure how I’d handle it if it were true.

“Congratulations,” Lucy said as she approached, Alpha Sampson on her tail, keeping his eyes on her the entire time. It reminded me of how Gavin always kept his eyes on me, no matter where I went, like he feared danger was lurking around the corner at any moment. “I’m so happy for you. How does it feel to be an official Luna?” She asked, nudging me.

“Technically, I don’t become the actual Luna until tomorrow night when I’m sworn into office,” I tell her. “But it feels amazing to be Gavin’s wife.”

“Oh, trust me, everyone is looking at you like you’re their Luna already. You don’t have anything to worry about,” she assured me with a bright smile. “We’ll have to get together soon.”

“Yeah, definitely,” I told her.

Lucy kissed my cheeks before she pulled back.

“I’m going to grab some food now because I am starving,” she said as she took hold of Sampson’s hand and started to pull him towards the buffet that was set up on the far side of the room.

I couldn’t help but laugh as I turned towards Gavin.

“Maybe we should get some food too,” I suggest, entwining my fingers with his.

“We will, but first you’re going to tell me what’s wrong because I can feel that something isn’t right,” he tells me, raising his brows. “You should be happy, but instead you are anxious. What is it?”

I should have known I wouldn’t be able to hide that from him; damn mate bond.

I let out a breath and sucked my bottom lip into my mouth.

“Nan left without saying a word to me,” I tell him. “And I don’t see her here. Did she really bail on my wedding?”

His expression softened as he wrapped me in his arms, pulling me against his chest.

“I’m sure she had a good reason,” Gavin said, cupping my face in his big, strong hands, and then he brought his lips to mine, kissing me like he was a starved man, and I was the only source of food.

“Okay, you two, gross,” Irene teased as she approached, her arms folded across her chest.

Erik was right there with her, as he should be. It was good to see them together, and I’m glad they were both able to be in this wedding. Irene as one of my bride’s maids and Erik as one of Gavin’s groomsmen.

Irene wrapped her arms around me and gave me a large hug.

“I’m so happy for you,” she breathed before she pulled back. “And you look amazing.”

“Thanks to you,” I tell her, nudging her with my shoulder. “I’m not sure what I would have done without you.”

“I guess I can officially call you family,” she said, before turning to her father. “Be good to her… she’s a good one.”

Irene said, pointing her finger at her father.

He let out a low and boisterous laugh before he pulled his daughter into his arms and gave her a large hug, nearly lifting her off the ground and scaring her half ot death. When he set her back on the ground, she was annoyed, but had a ghost of a smile on her face.

Erik stepped beside her and wrapped an arm around his mate’s shoulder, pulling her into him. She went willingly; her cheeks flushed.

We all went together to grab a plate of food. The smell alone was intoxicating, making my belly rumble. Dinner passed with laughter and small conversations. Pack members kept coming up to me, one by one, to offer congratulations. Some were people who once doubted me… those who whispered about me behind my back.

Olivia’s friends.

But tonight, they bowed their heads respectfully, and I couldn’t believe the sight of it. It felt surreal.

Then came the dancing. I wasn’t a good dancer, not like I was a fighter. But I could keep a tune, and slow dancing was easy because it was just a bunch of swaying back and forth.

Gavin took me in his arms, and I put mine around his neck. He stared at me with so much love and admiration that I could hardly breathe. Our song played softly in the background, and I almost heard our son’s soft cooing over the music, but a quick look showed he was sleeping soundly with Gavin’s mother, who

remained in her seat for almost the whole time.

Midway through the song, others started to dance as well. Once the song ended, a newer, more upbeat one began, and everyone pulled apart and started dancing wildly.

Gavin entwined our fingers and pulled me off the dance floor. We went over to his mother, both of us wanting to see our son. Matt was also at the table, talking to Dianne who looked tired.

“Hey, buddy. How about you go find someone else to talk to for a bit,” Gavin said, putting a hand on Matt’s shoulder. “I think your grandma needs a break.”

“Can we have cake?” Matt asked, raising his brows.

I let out a laugh; despite everything, I always forget that Matt is only a little boy. I run my fingers through his shaggy hair.

“Soon,” Gavin promised him. “We’ll cut the cake, and you’ll get the first slice.”

Matt cheered excitedly as he ran off to find someone else to talk to.

“How is my little boy?” Gavin asked, sitting beside his mother.

“He’s amazing. Such a good baby. Reminds me so much of you at his age. I can already sense it…he’s going to be extremely powerful.”

Gavin smiled, and I could see the pride on his face.

I found myself looking around again, my eyes darting around the area. My chest tightened when I still didn’t see Nan anywhere. I was worried about it; it wasn’t like her to disappear on me like this.

I saw my mom and dad talking off in the distance; my mom looked a bit worried, and my chest tightened even more. Without thinking, I turned and started towards them. I could feel Gavin’s worry and curiosity as he watched me disappear through the crowd, and I didn’t stop until I was directly in front of my parents.

They knew something… I know they did.

“What’s going on?” I asked, looking between the two of them.

My mom started, and my dad turned to look at me, his face stoic.

“Nothing for you to be concerned about. Go celebrate your marriage with your husband,” my father said, putting a hand on my shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze.

I turned to my mother, knowing I wasn’t going to get anything out of my father.

“What is it?” I asked her. “Where is Nan?”

My mom’s eyes widened, and her eyes darted to the door on the far side of the room. The one that led into the back halls where the offices were. She caught herself quickly after, though, and looked away, but it was too late. I already saw the gesture, and I was already heading in that direction.

“Judy, wait,” my mother said, and I could hear her shuffling her feet, trying to walk fast enough in her heels to catch up to me.
