The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1236

Lorie’s body swayed, and her face turned as white as a sheet of paper, the light in her eyes dimming bit by bit. In that single moment, all her years of pride and obsession were utterly shattered by Harold’s words.

Harold watched her, looking completely lost, but his eyes held no sympathy—only a cold, detached understanding. He turned and walked toward the end of the corridor, leaving Lorie standing alone. It finally dawned on her that her persistence over so many years had been nothing more than a ridiculous, self-deceiving fantasy. The man she thought had once loved her had never given her a place in his heart.

A colossal wave of loss and despair washed over her, threatening to drown her. She slowly sagged against the cold wall, her shoulders trembling violently as tears finally streamed down her face.

She had lied to herself countless times. Even when she knew Alexander’s engagement to her was laced with calculation, even when she saw how special Danielle was to him, she had stubbornly clung to the belief that, somewhere in his heart, there had been a place for her. Perhaps it was a gentle late-night greeting or a helping hand during a crisis; she could always scrape together some tiny shred of “love” from the clues, piecing them into a comforting illusion. But Alexander’s indifference in the hospital room, followed by Harold’s every word twisting the knife, had acted like sledgehammers, completely pulverizing her long-held obsession.

So all that supposed affection had been nothing more than him playing along to achieve his goals. The family status and talent she took so much pride in were worthless in his eyes. From the very beginning, the only one he had ever cherished was Danielle. And she, Lorie, was just a pawn in his game, to be discarded at any moment. Every comforting lie she had told herself had become a joke, and all her persistence was now proof of her foolishness. The man had always been cold and heartless.
