Miles watched Oliver with genuine admiration.
Oliver turned to Charlie, his voice clear and direct. “You said the transfer came from an anonymous account. Pull up the transaction details.”
Charlie opened his mouth, maybe to object, but a gun pressed against his forehead before he could get a word out. Miles spoke up. “Charlie, we’ve been patient. Don’t push it. If you keep testing us, you won’t be leaving the Grayson family estate. Think about that. And since the password’s already cracked, it’s only a matter of time before we find the records ourselves.”
Charlie knew they weren’t just threatening him. He clenched his jaw, frustration clear on his face, but finally pulled up the transaction records.
Julian glanced at the kid who was already busy typing away at the computer. “Can you find anything?”
“It’ll take a little time,” Oliver replied while his fingers moved quickly over the keyboard.
Half an hour later, Oliver handed the laptop to Julian. “Got it.”
Julian took the computer and scanned the screen. The name on the sender’s account popped up: Raine.
Raine.
Julian’s eyes narrowed.
Miles chimed in quietly, “Raine is Ms. Monroe’s sister. She’s really close with Ms. Fortner.”
Of course Julian knew. He also knew that Raine was the one who usually helped Helene handle things behind the scenes.
A chill flashed through Julian’s gaze. “So, what’s your take?”
Miles lowered his head. “She’s a scapegoat.”
Julian nodded. Tracing the money to Raine was as good as tracing it straight to Helene. Raine was just a shield.
