Helene wanted so badly to see Madeline look disappointed, but there was nothing. Madeline’s face was unreadable, cold and calm like she was wearing armor, and nobody could tell what she was really feeling underneath.
Helene couldn’t get the reaction she wanted. Madeline had even snapped back at her, so Helene could only give up and turn away. She knew she didn’t have the upper hand right now. If she caused a scene and Julian heard about it, he’d only hate her more.
She nudged Courtney to push her wheelchair out. As soon as she turned around, her gaze collided with a man standing there, his presence cold enough to make the air feel sharp.
He had a smirk that wasn’t friendly at all, more like trouble. The way he looked at her made Helene’s skin prickle with unease.
It’s him again!
Helene couldn’t even count how many times she’d suffered because of this guy. She started trembling.
“Mom, go. Please, let’s get out of here.” She didn’t dare stay another second and practically ran away in a panic.
Madeline was already crazy enough, but this man was even scarier. Helene was terrified he’d pull her out of her wheelchair and rough her up right there. Seeing her daughter so freaked out, Courtney didn’t say a word. She just hurried Helene away as fast as she could.
Casey’s mouth pulled into a cold, crooked smile before he looked away from Helene and turned to Madeline. His icy vibe faded, just a little.
“What brings you here?” he asked.
“Just passing through,” Madeline replied.
Casey walked into the hospital room with her and glanced at Noah, who was lying in bed. “You’re looking a lot better,” he said, voice casual.
Noah looked up at Casey, polite as always. “Uncle Casey.”
Casey just nodded.
“Take a seat,” Madeline said, and poured him a glass of water. She was just handing it over when someone barged through the door so fast that the bodyguards barely had a chance to react.
Madeline frowned, turning to see a guy in a gray tracksuit, baseball cap pulled low, mask and sunglasses covering his whole face.
She knew right away who it was.
