Julian’s eyes darkened, his expression turning ice cold. He didn’t need to look at anything else. Just around them, four cars had boxed them in.
He muttered a curse under his breath. This was for Madeline. No doubt about it.
Damn it!
He pulled out his phone right away, calling for backup.
In the car behind, Cody had already realized something was wrong. He spoke quickly into his earpiece, coordinating with his team. Their cars rushed forward, cutting off several of the attackers.
Cody didn’t waste a second. He got Casey on the line.
Suddenly, Miles noticed a car beside them jerk the wheel hard, smashing into their vehicle with reckless force.
It all happened in a blink.
Miles’s eyes went wide. “Boss, Ms. Monroe, hold on!” he shouted.
A thunderous crash shook the whole car. Madeline’s head buzzed, her vision spinning.
The impact slammed the car sideways. Her seatbelt caught her, but she still lurched forward.
Julian, still on the phone, caught sight of her and immediately pulled her back, holding her close.
As soon as he finished his call, Julian’s gaze was all worry. “Are you hurt?”
Madeline blinked, trying to steady herself. She looked at him and shook her head. “I’m okay.”
Another car barreled toward them from the front. Miles had no choice but to yank the wheel, veering into open ground.
He pressed the gas, trying to lose their tail, but the black car behind them wouldn’t let up. It stayed on them, relentless.
Miles pushed the speed, but their pursuers kept up. Out of nowhere, a gunshot cracked. Miles’ arm jerked, blood blooming where the bullet hit. He gritted his teeth, nearly losing control of the wheel.
Julian acted fast, grabbing the wheel and taking over. He scanned the scene, thinking fast. “Jump out,” he ordered.
“Sir?”
