"Claire also said there is no antidote for this serum."
Madeline’s eyes narrowed. "So Julian will never remember his past?"
"Not necessarily. Memory loss isn't always permanent. Maybe Julian will remember someday."
Maybe he would remember someday!
But how long would that take?
Five years? Ten?
"Did you tell Julian about this?"
"No. If I told him that the grandfather he respects so much drugged him to erase his memories, he’d think I was out of my mind, wouldn't he?"
Even Madeline, who knew exactly what had transpired, could hardly believe it. How could Julian, who had lost his memories of the past, possibly believe that Christian would be driven to such a manic extreme?
"Since you understand the situation, keep your mouth shut. You wouldn't want to see Julian turn against me either."
"You're right. But if you cross the line and pull a stunt like this again, no one will be able to cover it up for you."
Christian looked surprised for a moment, his gaze turning scrutinizing. "You're just going to agree? No conditions? You aren't going to use this to blackmail me?"
Madeline shook her head, a faint smile touching her lips. "You might enjoy threatening people with leverage, but I can't do that. Besides... what good would it do to make Julian turn against you? The truth behind Brian's death hasn't been uncovered yet. We shouldn't be enemies, should we?"
Looking at Christian's slightly stunned expression, Madeline didn't say anything more. She had no intention of telling Julian. Even if she did, what then? Telling him wouldn't turn back time. It wouldn't magically restore his memories.
