Nancy glanced up at her. Even though Nelly didn’t exactly eat with grace, she somehow made the pastry look irresistible.
That pastry was all crispy, flaky layers on the outside, stuffed with sweet apple and gooey caramel inside. The smell alone was enough to make anyone’s mouth water.
Nancy wasn’t someone who ate much, and today she’d stuck to just water so she’d look perfect on camera. Now, hunger and temptation were starting to win.
Nelly caught her looking. “Hungry?”
Nancy pressed her lips together. Nelly broke the pastry in half and offered a piece, but Nancy quickly turned away. “No thanks, I’m on a diet. That thing’s loaded with calories.”
“Suit yourself. It’s really good though. Honestly, I could eat even more.”
Nelly was about to take another bite when Nancy suddenly grabbed her wrist.
“Fine, since you’re offering, I guess I can’t turn you down. I’ll just have a taste.”
She carefully pinched off half of what Nelly was holding, hesitated for a second, and finally popped it into her mouth.
Wow. The buttery, rich flavor was unreal. It was so good she almost forgot she was supposed to be dieting.
Nancy finished her piece in no time, then found herself eyeing what was left in Nelly’s hand.
This time, Nelly didn’t even bother pretending to share. She stuffed the rest into her mouth in a flash, like she was worried Nancy might snatch it away.
Once they finished eating, they left the office together.
Usually, Nelly drove herself home, but she was wiped out tonight. She asked her assistant to drive both of them instead.
On the way, Nelly brought up the launch event.
Because of all the drama online, they’d had to change organizers, which left them scrambling for time. But there was a silver lining. Thanks to one of Nelly’s brand partners, they’d landed the main stage at an A-list international venue. Their brand would debut at the Lumière Expo in France, one of the world’s most prestigious events.
If everything went smoothly, their brand would get a huge boost in reputation and status.
Nancy’s eyes lit up. “Wait, so… we’re flying to France tomorrow?”
Jonah came home late and noticed the light still on in Felix’s study.
“All taken care of?” he asked.
Felix didn’t look up, flipping through files and entertainment news clippings.
He wasn’t a fan of scrolling online, so he had someone gather all the headlines for him.
He’d been keeping tabs on Nancy’s situation from the start.
Truthfully, Felix had never really worried. Even if Nancy ran into trouble, Vincent would never be able to do her any real harm.
Back when she was abroad and out of his sight, Britney had always been there. And no matter how much Britney hated him, she’d never let anything happen to her own family.
Nancy was just using this whole mess to embarrass him.
Still, that didn’t mean he’d let Vincent off the hook.
