When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 341

“It’s a misunderstanding.” Brody didn’t disappoint. Those words, simple and sharp, left Nancy with nothing to say.

Nancy offered a tight smile. “Doesn’t really sound like a misunderstanding to me. I heard Mr. Garland was practically dying for his old flame…”

“Who told you that?”

His question cut right through her, stopping her cold.

“I…” Nancy’s face lost all its color. She was about to say something else, but Brody gave her a thin, mocking smile.

“Ms. Watson, I know you work in entertainment and love a bit of gossip, but repeating rumors isn’t a great habit. Maybe you should work on that.”

Unbelievable. The nerve of this guy. Nancy’s hands curled into fists in her lap. She was dying to slap him across the face.

Brody didn’t spare her another glance. His eyes drifted past her, settling on Nelly across the room. He looked like he was thinking about something.

Never’s show tonight was a hit. Afterward, at the banquet, everyone was warm and welcoming to Nelly and Nancy. Nelly introduced Nancy to all the big names, and they had some good, in-depth chats with a few major players.

Nelly had thought Brody would be a problem. She and Nancy had already worked out a plan. If he got in the way, they’d send him home early or let Nancy handle things on her own for the rest of the night.

But Brody surprised them. He was actually pretty easygoing. He didn’t hover around. Before long, Nelly realized she didn’t even know where he’d gone.

“Where’s your husband?” Nancy noticed too as the crowd started thinning out and they were getting ready to leave.

“No idea. Maybe he already left.”

Nelly turned and spotted Brody standing alone, glass in hand, sipping his drink. He didn’t stay alone for long. Pretty soon, people started gathering around him.

“Ms. Stewart, after your fall today, you’re definitely going to be all over the international headlines tomorrow. But don’t worry, a lot of people thought it was part of the show. Your partner handled it perfectly.”

Nelly could barely manage a smile.

When the group moved on, Nancy leaned in and whispered, “What now? If you and Brody end up in the news, the Watson family is definitely going to find out.”

What now? The secret was bound to come out sooner or later. There really wasn’t much Nelly could do.

She stared at Brody’s silhouette, swirled the wine in her glass, and finished it in one long sip.
