When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 396

Nicholas clenched his jaw, giving Tina a quick, calming look that finally got her to stop talking.

Sheila noticed the way Nicholas’s face changed as he glanced at Nelly and Jonah. She looked like she wanted to say something, but decided against it.

“Uncle Nicholas, are these your guests?” Jonah spoke up first. The way he addressed Nicholas made Tina freeze. Uncle Nicholas? Did he really just call him that?

“Yes. Ms. Olson is my guest. What exactly happened here?” Nicholas’ tone was serious and his face was hard to read. It was obvious he cared about Sheila’s side of things.

Jonah hadn’t even replied yet when Tina, looking a little guilty, burst out, “Mr. Watson, I know you’re fair, but your nephew must have been influenced by Nelly. Why else would he defend a married woman with such a bad reputation?”

“Nelly isn’t a good person. She even claimed to be Ms. Watson and tried to steal the organizer’s jewelry!”

Sheila kept giving Tina warning looks, but Tina was so caught up in her own story that she didn’t notice.

“Mrs. Garland, please calm down. Mr. Watson is here. This is his family’s business. Let him handle it,” Sheila finally said, grabbing Tina’s arm and silently begging her to stop. Nicholas wasn’t close to them, so anyone with sense would know this was the time to play the victim.

Tina realized she’d gone overboard. She pressed her lips together, flustered.

To Nelly, the whole scene was just ridiculous. She rolled her shoulders, then stepped away from Jonah and faced Nicholas, her voice quiet. “Uncle Nicholas.”
