When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 387

When Carmen woke up the next morning, she noticed all her clothes had been moved from her closet into the master bedroom’s walk-in. She didn’t have to guess who made that decision. Should she give Pearson some credit for being so efficient? Maybe.

It was Saturday and she actually had the day off. When she wandered into the dining room, she found him already there, reading a newspaper at the table. Seriously, who still did that? The whole thing gave him this very “grandpa” vibe. Even her own grandfather had stopped keeping up with the news that way.

As soon as he saw her, Pearson folded the newspaper and said quietly, “Come eat.” Buena immediately sprang into action, heating up breakfast for her.

Waking up early was never really Carmen’s thing. With her job’s crazy hours, being up in the middle of the night was normal. She had another project lined up from before the wedding, so her schedule would be upside down again soon. For now, she just wanted to catch up on as much sleep as possible.

“Are you free today?” Pearson asked out of nowhere while she was sipping her oatmeal.

“Mmm. Why?” Her response was muffled by her spoon.

“We need to go to the mall. I don’t know your ring size, and we haven’t bought the wedding bands yet.”

Carmen felt a little awkward. Buying rings together was what real couples did. Their marriage was just on paper. “Size eight. You can buy them yourself.”

She had zero interest in making this outing a thing.

Pearson glanced at her hands, noticing how skinny her fingers were. “I’d rather choose with you, just in case you don’t like what I pick. It won’t take long.”

The way he said it made it tough to say no. After breakfast, she put on some light makeup, pulled on a white cashmere coat, shoved her feet into her shoes, and met him at the door. They headed for the parking garage together.

He opened the passenger door for her, all gentlemanly, and then got in on the driver’s side. Thirty minutes later, they pulled up at the biggest mall in Cabinda.

Inside a jewelry store, Carmen felt completely uninterested. She barely glanced at the trays of matching rings, pointed at one set that didn’t even look expensive, and said, “This one.”

Pearson frowned for a second, but his expression smoothed out. “We’ll take this. Size eight. She should try it on.”
