When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 388

“Want to look at diamond rings too?” the associate asked.

“No, we already bought one,” Pearson answered, sounding totally calm.

Carmen was caught off guard. “When did you do that?”

“My mom picked it out for us. We’ll grab it tomorrow when we go back for dinner.”

Carmen knew Pearson’s mother was a powerhouse, the head of The Gill Group, though her younger sister was the one running things day to day. Pearson, like his dad, had gone into politics instead.

All that just meant this diamond ring was probably worth a fortune. Carmen didn’t argue. She just quietly marveled at how detail-oriented her mother-in-law was.

So, he already had her ring size? It hit Carmen a little late. She realized she’d been outmaneuvered by the man standing next to her.

Pearson didn’t even flinch. He picked up the shopping bag and gestured for her to follow. “Let’s go.”

As they strolled to the door, their hands brushed together, just slightly. In the next instant, he took her hand.

Carmen stopped, staring at him. “What are you doing?”

Pearson just tilted his head, completely nonchalant. “What’s the problem?”

It’s not illegal to hold your wife’s hand, is it?

Carmen felt awkward. “We barely know each other. If someone sees us, it’ll look weird.”

Pearson replied, “If we do it more, it won’t feel weird anymore. Carmen, we’re married.”

Carmen let it go. Honestly, if someone snapped a picture of the newlyweds not even holding hands, rumors would probably start before their wedding even happened.

For the next few days, that was as close as they got—just holding hands. Then Carmen dove into a new project. She’d be away in Harrisburg for twenty days.

And still, somehow, neither of them had each other’s contact info.

On the day she left, Pearson was working late. Carmen turned to Buena. “Hey, let him know I’m going on a business trip. I’ll be back on the twentieth.”

Buena hesitated. “Sure, but… why not message Pearson yourself?”

She couldn’t help but wonder. Were these two strangers or something?

Carmen just shrugged. “It’s fine if you do it. I’m off. Bye!”
