The people who attended Mister Cunning’s banquet were all reputable people in the city. Darryl had always been impulsive and she would not allow him to embarrass himself there.
"Why should I leave?" Darryl replied without thinking; his tone was firm.
He glanced at Grady. “He didn’t really want to help you. You should know his real goal. I don’t think we need to attend this banquet. Come home with me.”
Lolita bit her lips hard, feeling anxious and angry. However, she did not know how to respond.
At that moment, Grady laughed and taunted Darryl, “Ha-ha! Darryl, you said I wouldn’t help Lolita, but do you have a way to help her? Apart from fighting and living off your wife, what else can you do?”
Grady’s laughter attracted the attention of everyone around him, causing many people to look over and point at them.
"Huh? Isn't that the Damien family’s son-in-law?"
"I heard that the eldest Young Miss of the Damien family married the poor guy. So, that is him."
"It turned out to be a man living off his wife. She is just like a flower stuck in cow dung..."
Everyone’s chattering made Lolita feel horrible. ‘I asked Darryl to leave, but he refused. Now look at what's happening! My family’s reputation is being tarnished thanks to him.’
Darryl showed no emotion as he whispered to Lolita, "Lolita, let's go!"
"Enough, Darryl. I brought Lolita here to talk about her family business, so don't embarrass us here,” Grady mocked.
‘This stupid bastard!’ Darryl frowned and was about to speak.
