He regretted it.
He should not have refused her so resolutely. He should have agreed to be with her when she confessed to him...
For the first time, Adam admitted that he regretted it.
Since he was a child, he had never regretted anything that he had done or any decisions that he had made. Especially when he became a soldier, he knew full well that there could be no turning back once a decision was made. Thus, he always looked forward and did not look back.
But now, he really regretted it.
It was his deep-hidden thought that had been suppressed in the depths of his heart for a long time. When it was spoken out, he actually felt a sense of relief.
Carter was confused. "Captain Chin?"
Adam did not answer him, his black eyes looking into the distance, but no one knew where he was looking.
He took a long draw on his cigarette.
White smoke swirled around his mouth and nose, blurring his chiseled face. After finishing one cigarette, his eyes were less gloomy, and he regained some composure.
Carter raised his head with a dazed look. "Captain Chin, what are you regretting? Can you make up for it?"
Hearing this, Adam threw the cigarette butt on the ground and put it out.
Adam looked aside. It seemed that Carter's words stirred up something in his heart.
Adam raised his hand and threw the convenient noodles box over. He said in a low voice, "Eat the instant noodles tomorrow morning. Don't waste it."
Carter, looking at the noodles pinched to pieces by Adam, did not know what to say.
Anthea just finished dealing with a child's inflammation wound and was packing up her medicine bag.
It was almost a week since she arrived at the disaster area.
Although the flood had not completely retreated, it was already half gone. There were fewer and fewer people who were sent to the rescue station. She saw few new wounded these days, which made her
feel relieved.
"Anthea!"
Leonardo, whose hair was all dyed blonde, rushed in.
Anthea, frightened, almost dropped the medicine bottle in her hand. She glared at him angrily and said, "Why are you in such a hurry? Aren't you afraid that Mr. Zanon will scold you? He just gave you a lesson this morning, telling you to stay calm!"
"Old Zanon? Oh, I think you are the only student that he likes!" Leonardo pursed his lips and snorted.
"Don't call him that. He is only in his fifties and not old at all. Besides, his medical skills are very good. You should pay more effort into learning from him. The four years of college will pass by quickly. Don't cry if you learn nothing by the time we graduate!" Anthea felt helpless.
"Fine, fine. He's a grand old man, all right?" Leonardo said in a voice dripping with sarcasm. He then knocked on the table and continued, "Let's not talk about him. I have something else to say to you!"
Anthea rolled her eyes and went on packing her things.
Leonardo threw himself on the table in front of her and laughed with bad intentions. "Anthea, do you want to hear something about your uncle-in-law?"
"No!" Anthea pulled a long face.
"Then forget it. It's none of my business after all!" Leonardo raised his eyebrows high, lazily got up, and walked out.
Anthea bit her lip and said, "Golden Leonardo, come back!"
When Leonardo heard her, he immediately smirked and said, "Hey, little buddy, go on pretending that you don't care about him!"
Anthea was on the verge of losing her temper. "Say it now. If you keep teasing me like this, I'll be really angry!"
"Well, well, well!" Leonardo saw that she was really angry, so he quickly begged for mercy. After all, he had something important to tell her. "I just followed Mr. Zanon to the army camp to collect blood. I heard several soldiers saying that their rescue work here is almost over!
"The group of soldiers from special forces brought here by your uncle-in-law belong to the force for emergency rescue. This area was short of men, so they have been transferred here to help. However, because they are special force soldiers, they cannot stay here for a long time. They will hand over the rest to other troops and withdraw from Platan County this afternoon!" "So, he's going back?" Anthea was stunned, and her eyes widened slightly.
"Certainly!" Leonardo nodded.
