When there was a fire, descending by rope was actually not a wise choice.
The building on fire was the laboratory building with a lot of inflammable and explosive articles. The fire was very fierce now, and the explosion could occur at any time.
Once the rope was burned off in the process of descending, Erik would fall directly from the tall building.
However, he didn’t have time to worry about that.
Following the fire ladder on the side of the building, he threw the rope on his right shoulder and climbed to the roof with bare hands.
He had strictly followed the disciplines in the army. As a soldier, he should protect the country and the people.
What's more, the person inside the building was his true love, Crystal.
Thick smoke billowed on the roof. Erik's face had been tense all the time. He didn't want to think about anything else in case his anxiety disturbed his mind. He wanted to drop down as quickly as possible.
He put his legs together and stepped on the wall.
He grabbed the rope with his right hand and pressed his body, which was hanging down to 90 degrees, backward with force, and then quickly lowered his whole body.
According to the information given by Crystal’s classmate, he got to right position on the 15th floor and then jumped into the building from the exploded window. He bent over and searched in the spreading fire. Finally, in a corner of the stairs, he saw a curled up figure.
His worried heart finally settled down.
Erik had been mad at Crystal for the meeting with Riley she had arranged last time. That night, he rushed back home from the army hurriedly. That ambiguous scene made his blood boil with excitement, but the woman lying in his bed was not her, but Riley. Now thinking of it, he still felt angry.
But these feelings were all gone when he learned that Crystal was still trapped in the building.
Crystal held her knees and curled up into a ball like a weak little animal. Half of her face was illuminated by the light of the fire. There was dust on it.
Erik rushed forward and held her shoulders with one knee on the ground.
As soon as his palm touched Crystal’s body, his cold and stiff body seemed to be finally relieved.
"Crystal!" Erik shouted at her.
Crystal raised her head and looked at him in shock. "Erik?"
At the moment when the explosion happened downstairs, she reacted very quickly.
Her father, Adam, used to be an excellent soldier, and her mother, Anthea, was a doctor who had often followed Adam for relief and she had even made meritorious deeds in the army after handling many dangerous situations.
Crystal had been told by her parents when she was very little that she should stay calm no matter what happened.
Although Crystal felt fearful in her heart, she did not panic or cry. Instead, she immediately covered her mouth and nose with a wet towel. Unfortunately, the fire spread too fast. The air was occasionally filled with the sound of breaking, and from time to time, broken beams would smash down from the top of her head.
Sparks were everywhere, and all the escapees were blocked.
She lost her way in the thick smoke, so she could only find a relatively safe place and
wait for the rescue.
It was useless to panic. The fire was too big and it was in the campus, so someone would call soon 911.
She had thought that it would be the firemen coming to rescue her, but Erik showed up in the end!
She looked at Erik in disbelief. It took her quite a while to confirm that it was really him. In the fire, his eyes were full of anxiety and worry.
Although it was not appropriate in such a dangerous and terrible situation, Crystal was so happy to see him that she almost jumped up.
In particular, his eyes were burning with worry. She said happily and pitifully, "It's really you! I thought you never wanted to see me!"
Erik was both helpless and speechless.
