Simon got a day off the next day.
The sun was setting as time goes by. They were going to the mother's place to keep the appointment they made yesterday. Emily found a long dress in the wardrobe and got dressed up.
At this time, she was lying on the bed, answering a phone call from her cousin Selena Jones back in Ice city.
Selena still sounded surprised, "Emily, I still feel surreal. You're sure that it's all true. Why it feels like stories in TV plays?"
Beside Emily's best friends, only Selena knew about Simon's disease. There no secrets between the sisters. Emily had told Selena not to tell their elders to avoid unnecessary worries. Although Selena was unreliable sometimes, she could still figure out the seriousness of this matter.
"Do you think that I want all this to be true?" Emily pursed her lips.
If she could, she even wanted time go back to the time when they were separated...
They had missed half a year's time, and she didn't want to waste another minute or second.
"By the way, sister, I admire you so much!" Selena could sense the melancholy in her voice. She sighed and then asked, "By the way, how is Simon? Is he still refusing to make peace with you?"
"Well, he doesn't want to be a burden to me." With her eyelashes down, Emily said in sadness.
How could she not know his thoughts?
He let her go and prayed for her happiness on his own initiative, and kept their distance. It was because he felt that he was infected and might leave the world at any time, and he did not want to be a burden to her.
She sniffed and snorted. "I have no idea. I can only do it step by step. Anyway, no matter what he does, I can't leave him!"
Selena remained silent for a few seconds after Emily's words, and then she asked, "Emily, I'm curious. Simon has an AIDS that can't be cured in his life. Are you really not afraid? Have you made up your mind that you will stay by his side even you may be infected by him?"
"Of course!" Emily answered without hesitation.
It was because he was sick that her determination to stay beside him was even stronger. From the moment she apologized to Calvin Desmond that she could not marry to him, and from the moment she packed up her luggage to get here from Ice city, she had already made up her mind.
Selena thought for a moment and said, "If that's the case, there's actually one direct and simplest way!"
Hearing this, Emily couldn't help sitting up straight. "What is it?"
Hanging up the phone, she narrowed her eyes. A light of cunning flickered in her eyes.
There was a knock on the door. And Simon's deep voice penetrated the door. "Emily, are you ready? We ought to go out!"
"Coming! I'm coming!" Emily got off the bed and sprung to her feet.
When they arrived at the mother's house, it was the dusk.
This was not a common residential building, but a yard. There was a grass shed beside the yard, in which a lot of cows were reared. They wagged their tails and made moos from time to time.
They were stepping on earth. At the center of the yard was a bungalow. Because the bungalow was too small, the dining tables were all set in the yard.
There were about five or six tables, having filled up the entire courtyard. Each table was surrounded by locals. They spoke in obscure vernacular, but the simplest happiness could be seen from their faces.
After butchering the two cows, the host sent one to the market and left the other to enjoy. There were almost no other dishes on the table. All were beef.
