Cayden nodded and sat down. The coffee table sat between Nathan and Cayden as they chatted.
Cayden said, “The President is going to promote me, and I will be the Assistant the Chief Military Governor, so I will be counting on you to show me the ropes in the future.”
Nathan calmly replied, “Your accomplishments are incredible, Mr. Quillen. With you joining our team, I’m sure we'll grow to be better.”
Cayden wanted to act humble, so he said, “It'll take some time before I officially take up the role, but I've actually started doing the preparation lately. I want to contribute to the country and the military while I am still young enough to do so.
“Honestly, though, it had been over twenty years since I worked as a military official. The president is entrusting me with a role as important as Assistant the Chief Military Governor, so I am actually a little stressed out.”
Nathan replied, “If the pressure is too much and you think you are too old for a role like that, I can talk to the president on your behalf. Truly, it's no trouble to assign a less stressful
position to you, Mr. Quillen.”
Cayden's eyes bulged in response.
What the hell? I am simply being slightly humble, and the Chief Military Governor is already taking advantage of my words? I can't believe he's trying to reassign me to another role!
Layden was both surprised and angry. He quickly replied, “Oh no, that's not it at all. I'm not worried about the stress. I'm just worried about how things will be after I have assumed the role. The thing is, I won't have any of my old subordinates with me, so it might be difficult for me to fully utilize my skills.
“That is why I'd like to recruit some of my old pals. Many have already retired from their posts in the army, but they are actually amazing.
“You might have heard of the ones known as the Four Combat Kings.
“My intention was to get them on board after I have officially assumed my role. That way, we can serve the country together.
“These men are like the pillars of the army, and they are more patriotic than most. However... you'll never guess what happened to them after they entered Brimmopolis.”
Nathan put on a skin-deep grin and deliberately acted surprised. “What happened?”
Layden angrily protested, “Someone beat them up after they reached Brimmopolis. They are all injured and hospitalized as a result.”
Nathan replied, “What the hell? Every single one of them is hospitalized after getting into a fight? I can't believe they're so weak.”
Layden almost choked on his saliva after hearing those words.
He couldn't help protesting, “the Chief Military Governor, that is not the point. Your focus should be on the culprit who injured these powerful and righteous men.”
Nathan nodded. “You're right. Who's the culprit?”
