In truth, Penny wasn't the only one worried about Nathan. The different military districts within Eurasia were also closely monitoring the developments in the West.
One of them was Franklin of the Channing military district.
Given that he was better connected than Penny, he quickly learned that the Chief Military Governor had resolved the conflict between Volk and Eurasia. Furthermore, both nations had agreed to start preliminary negotiations on peace talks and even set a date for the signing of the treaty.
That was an indication that Volk wasn't going to join the alliance and wouldn’t make enemies of Eurasia.
On top of that, Franklin was filled with excitement when he found out that Nathan would be returning to Channing that afternoon on a civilian flight.
He exclaimed in delight, “Haha, that's the Chief Military Governor for you. He can definitely resolve a problem that Lucas can't. The cyberattack launched by the military successfully disrupted Volk's internet infrastructure for six hours. During that period, their planes couldn't fly, and the guidance systems for their missiles malfunctioned. Even communications within the country were encountering problems. Hence, I'm sure the President of Volk, Malcolm, must have been frightened into backing off."
Callan, the captain of Franklin's National Guards, added with a smile, “I even heard that the Chief Military Governor arrived at the Nine-Nation Summit and began slaughtering its participants. Not only did he challenge the nine nations' representatives, but he also defeated Xyperia, Jetroina, and Volk's Gods of War. Furthermore, he even struck fear into Ariarica's Five-star General, Max, to the extent that he didn't dare accept the challenge. Considering that Malcolm's knees must have been shaking, he was smart enough to readily agree to coexist peacefully with Eurasia.”
Franklin nodded with a smile. “Even though the Chief Military Governor is not allowed to disclose what happened, the army is well aware of the details internally. After bringing glory to the nation, he is returning as a hero. Therefore, order the Channing military district to send two fighter jets to escort the Chief Military Governor's flight when it enters Channing's airspace.”
Callan asked softly, “Would it upset the Chief Military Governor? Everyone knows that he prefers to keep a low profile.”
Franklin retorted, “The news media is unable to announce the Chief Military Governor's triumphant return due to the secretive nature of his mission. Even if the populace doesn't give him a grand welcome, what's wrong with the army celebrating a hero's return? Besides, we're just sending two jets to demonstrate our sincerity and nothing else. I'm sure the Chief Military Governor would definitely not be angry. On the contrary, if we don't do anything, wouldn't he be disappointed instead?”
Upon hearing Franklin's reason, Callan had no choice but to concur.
“I'll get it done at once.”
Franklin added, “Also, send someone to inform Mrs. Cross that Chief Cross would arrive in the afternoon. I figure she must have been worried sick over the last two days.”
Callan acknowledged. “Yes, Sir.”
At that moment, Penny and her family were entertaining Kylie's parents, Hank Tonkins and Prudence Maxwell, at home.
Both Hank and Prudence had always been concerned about when Kylie was going to get married.
