Lyanna gazed at Max as she spoke.
Max gave a faint smile and put away his arrogant demeanor.
He did not dare behave that way with Lyanna, the Patriarch's servant and his representative.
The vampires would not tolerate him if he offended the Patriarch.
Lyanna met Max's eyes and said, “The Patriarch appreciates your drive and is also very interested in your vision of the new world where vampires rule. He also said that being the fourteenth prince of the vampires is entirely possible. You just need to produce results, or you won't be able to convince the others.”
“I wonder how the Patriarch requires me to prove myself?” Max asked casually.
“The Patriarch is always asleep,” Lyanna answered crisply. “He is so powerful that his body consumes too much energy from being awake. Under normal circumstances, he can only reduce his consumption of energy by going into a deep sleep. Truth is, he is not fond of the lifestyle of being awake for a few days and sleeping for the rest of the year.”
Max narrowed his eyes. “The Patriarch wants my help?”
“That's right,” Lyanna said. “The Patriarch requires the blood of the Holy Maiden. Kill her and bring him her blood. The Patriarch can stay awake for a year if he drinks it. However, killing the Holy Maiden is a great sin, and you will incur the church's wrath for it. Besides, the Holy Maiden is heavily protected. I wonder if you have the strength and courage for such a task?”
Max's eyes became slits. “If I kill the Holy Maiden and bring back her blood, the Patriarch will make an exception and make me the fourteenth prince and let me start my own vampire clan?”
“That's right.”
“All right. Await my good news.”
Max turned and left after he finished speaking.
