He waited for me to continue and I did not dare meet his eyes. "I don't know what to say, I..."
I grabbed my hair as my heart seized.
Theo lifted his hand and grabbed my wrist. Gripping my wrist in the palm of his hand, he patted it as if to comfort me. "I'll give you time, you can go wherever you want. I'll wait for you to come back.
I broke completely at his reply as tears streamed down my face bitterly.
Through blurry vision, I could only see Theo's distressed gaze as he wiped my tears for me.
"I believe my father. I’ll find out the truth as soon as possible."
He took me into his arms, I did not push him away.
"What if that's the truth?" While I did not expect it to be, what should I do in case it was real?
I felt Theo’s body freeze at that. Then, he responded carefully, "If that is the truth, then I respect all your decisions."
All of my… decisions…
I gulped. I understood what he meant by that.
“We’ll talk about it when the time comes. I don’t know yet.”
“Then, now…” Theo looked at me as he hesitated to ask.
I lowered my head. "Since you want to search for the truth, then I’ll be with you until we find it.”
"Okay, then let's go home." Theo's tone was a little softer.
Wiping the remaining tears from the corners of my eyes, I smiled. "Yes, let's go home."
That night, I followed Theo back. I tried to put aside my grudges for the time being and continue to live with him while we investigated.
"Silas said he was leaving Whaldorf City for Rothard. Where should we start our investigation?”
Theo seemed to already have a direction in mind. "Naturally, we have to start with the Yards. Since Silas just so happens to be leaving Whaldorf City, we have more opportunities to infiltrate the Yards.”
"Indeed. If there were any clues left with the Yards, why do they keep throwing themselves at me without any fear of me finding out?" I questioned.
Theo smiled lightly. "It must not be obvious. I think we overlooked.”
"It’s been so long. Do you still think they would’ve kept it?”
"Regardless, Millicent is Silas's daughter after all. Her room must definitely be well protected."
I frowned. "We’re indeed most likely to find clues in her room, but even if Silas is not there, Sylvester will not let us in."
"Not necessarily."
Theo's words aroused my interest. "Why do you say so?”
"Is Sylvester really obedient to Silas?" he asked me with a smile.
"That’s a strange question. Silas raised him. Sylvester has great respect for him.”
"Respect can only exist on the surface. It doesn’t mean it’s genuine.”
I did not understand what Theo was trying to say. "I don't understand.”
Theo reached his hand out and knocked my head. "Silas is someone who his own daughter hated. You can tell from that he’s severe. Sylvester has lived under huge pressure thanks to Silas since he was a child. He cannot be free of hatred.”
"But this is just your guess. He might actually genuinely respects him.”
Theo smiled. "Then, we just need to watch Silas's behavior after he leaves.”
"With Silas gone, Yard Group would be Sylvester’s. If the person who oppressed you while you lived with them for many years suddenly leaves and never comes back, what will you do?"
After contemplating for a bit, I replied, "Replace the people in the important positions with your own?”
Suddenly, it all seemed to click…
