Chapter 254
She was already claiming the kid was Remington’s and still they wanna drag her to the OR? Crazy old woman!
“Don’t even start about your granny. She’s the epitome of integrity, pure as snow. If she knew her own granddaughter was out wrecking homes as a homewrecker, she’d break your legs herself! Since you say I’m like a granny to you, let me school you the way she would!”
Fiona’s face was stem, but her eyes betrayed a hint of pity. Pity for her old ga! pal, but clearly, it was Lizetta who took after the ladies in temperament and character, while Evelina had her head screwed on wrong.
Seeing Fiona’s heart was as hard as iron, not giving an inch of mercy, Evelina was boiling with hate and suddenly turned her guns on
Lizetta.
Through her tears, she pleaded, “Liz! I know you hate me, but my kid with Remington is innocent! He’s got Dashiell blood, and getting rid of him will jinx Fiona’s luck and life. Please, beg her for mercy for me!”
Evelina was making a scene, hoping to draw a crowd.
But Fiona had already had the place on lockdown.
If Lizetta hadn’t caught Evelina red–handed in the garden, hooking up with some dude, she might’ve actually fallen for her sob story.
Right now, if Evelina just fessed up that the kid wasn’t Remington’s, Fiona would let her off the hook.
But nope, she just had to play dirty, wanting to drag her down too.
So why should Lizetta stick her nose in, especially after Evelina’s crack about jinxing Fiona, which really got her goat.
Lizetta marched over and slapped Evelina right across her tear–stained face.
“Evelina, if you don’t wanna be wheeled into the OR now, spill the beans, or no one’s gonna save you!”
Evelina clutched her face, her expression clouding over instantly.
“That’s it, take her to the OR, and get the surgery done now!”
Fiona was out of patience and ordered in a deep voice.
The servants started dragging Evelina towards the OR, and she freaked out, screaming at the top of her lungs.
“I don’t want this, I won’t go! You have no right, let go of me! This is assault, I’m calling the cops!”
Fiona added sternly, “If the kid is Remington’s, then as the grandma, I have the right to decide, unless the kid isn’t his at all!”
Fiona still had faith in her grandson, thinking Evelina was full of lies.
She couldn’t believe that even now Evelina wouldn’t tell the truth, but suddenly Evelina broke free from the servants and threw herself at Fiona’s feet, clinging to her legs and wailing.
“Fiona, this is Remington’s child, your great–grandchild! Just feel, he’s about to kick any day now. Please, give him a chance to live!”
Fiona frowned, seeing her so weepy yet so stubborn, and doubt started creeping into her heart.
Could it be that Remington actually messed up?
This would be a disaster; she’d even called Liz over for a double whammy of hurt.
While Fiona was getting a headache, Evelina crawled a few steps and clung to Lizetta, begging.
“Liz, I messed up. I know you can’t stand me, that when I was brought back home by our parents, they had to send you off to your birth parents with tears, from heiress of the Hawthorne family to a regular family. You resented me, always competing with me, snagging my marriage prospects, I get it. But this has nothing to do with my baby. Spare him, and I swear, once he’s born, I’ll raise him myself. I won’t use him to snatch anything from you, I swear!”
Lizetta felt Evelina suddenly hugging her, right at her waist.
It sent chills down her spine, like being wrapped by a venomous snake. Instinctively wanting to protect her own unborn child, she pushed Evelina away, seething.
