Chapter 334
The Hawthorne family was on the brink of disaster, and Evelina was out of options
Elara found herself, once again, seeking help from Lizetta.
With a forced smile, she said, “Liz, could you possibly arrange a meeting with Remington for us?”
Lizetta offered a polite sinile in return, “He’s already been discharged from the hospital”
As she turned to leave, Elara cought her arm
“Liz, are you still upset about the past? Eve is carrying Remington’s baby. As a mother, it’s natural for me to look out for my daughter. I know I’ve been selfish, and I’m sorry for that. Could you, for old times‘ sake, help the Hawthome family, plead on our behalf?”
Elara’s eyes welled up, her expression filled with discomfort
Although she was a renowned dancer, living a life of luxury had made the thought of the Hawthornes‘ financial ruin unbearable.
Lizetta frowned slightly, “Plead?”
“Liz, haven’t you heard? Remington stopped his funding for the Hawthome family. Everything was going fine, and then suddenly, it wasn’t. The Hawthome Group’s financial support has completely dried up.”
Lizetta was unaware of this development, Remington had never mentioned it to her.
“Liz, can’t you think of your grandma? You can’t just stand by and watch the Hawthorne family fall. This business was built from the ground up by your grandparents.”
Kevin, in desperation, grasped Lizetta’s arm. He was referring, of course, to Rachel
Lizetta had been raised largely by Rachel due to Kevin and Elara’s busy schedules. Although Rachel passed away when Lizetta was only five, leaving most memones blurred, the warmth and admiration she felt for her grandmother remained deeply ingrained in her heart. And it was undeniable that Rachel’s influence played a part in Lizetta being adopted by the Dashiell family.
Kevin knew he had found Lizetta’s weak spot
Lizetta pursed her lips and withdrew her arm from Kevin’s grasp
Kevin’s heart sank, and Elara looked desperate
“Liz, do you really want to watch the Hawthorne family go bankrupt, letting your grandma down in her rest?”
Lizetta wasn’t heartless.
“ITI talk to Remi,” she said, “but I can’t promise he’ll change his mind.”
Kevin and Elara breathed a sigh of relief.
Kevin gave Elara a look, and she stepped forward to hug Lizetta, Thank you, sweetheart. I knew you were still our kind, gentle girl.” Lizetta patted Elara’s back, seizing the opportunity to take a few strands of her hair. Evelina’s behavior towards Jolin had been too strange: With hair from both Evelina and Elara, she planned to redo the paternity test.
She stepped back from Elara
“Elara, Kevin, after this, I owe the Hawthome family nothing.”
With a nod, she walked away, leaving Kevin and Elara with mixed feelings.
When Lizetta’s figure disappeared, their expressions tumed complicated.
Kevin sighed. “Back then, it wasn’t that we couldn’t afford to raise two daughters.”
