Sold To A Billionaire novel Chapter 18

Zoe’s POV
“Mom!” I called my mother as I looked for a dress inside my old cabinet.
Silly me, for I am not wearing any dress like those. I only have jeans and shirts.
“What is it?!” My mom yelled back as she was busy cooking in the kitchen.
I shook my head. Instead of shouting at each other, why can’t I just get down and ask her… closely?
Gees, self!
I rushed towards the kitchen and saw my mom stirring. “Mom.”
“Yes?” she asked, but her attention was still on the dish that she was cooking.
“Hmm… can I borrow one of your dresses?” I bit my lower lip as I reached for the glass and poured the water pitcher.
“For what?”
“I have a date.”
“A date?!” she exclaimed, which made me lose grip on the glass.
“What the hell, mom?!”
“Words, Zoe,” she said, more of a warning.
“So, can I?”
“Who’s your date?”
I put down the glass on the table and sighed. “Helios—”
“See—”
“With his dad,” I continued. And watched for her reaction. I saw how her eyes widened, and her lips parted.
“Seriously?”
I bit my lower lip and nodded.
“Why? Aren’t you afraid?”
I let out a soft chuckle and grabbed an apple from the center table. “Nope. Helios is with me.” And I bite on the apple.
“Are you sure you don’t want his offer?”
I frowned. “Whom?”
“Helios. The marriage.”
I coughed when I choked and glared at my mom. “No. It’s too early—”
“Why prolong it? You can try beside you like each other. He loves you—”
“Mom, please, stick with the topic. I need a dress. If you have, a more luxurious one,” I said and bit again on the apple.
I saw mom shake her head and turn off the stove.
“Let’s go upstairs,” she said. She walked toward her room, and I followed.
I watched how my mother looked after her dresses lined up on her cabinet and continued eating the apple. I even lay my back on her bed as she has a hard time finding one.
“Why don’t you just go back to Helios’s penthouse, Zoe? Your wardrobe is there, and it’s complete from pumps to accessories,” she said as she walked towards me and looked down.
I sighed and sat up. “Mom, I don’t want to take advantage of Helios’s kindness, and what if things won’t work between us? You can’t tell that we’re meant for each other.”
Mom shook her head and sat beside me. “You’re overthinking. Enjoy life. Enjoy the present moments and don’t even think of the future just yet. Of course, you have a long journey to walk on. The important thing is, you’re with him. It would be best if you didn’t have regrets, Zoe. Look at me. I didn’t think of a better future since I lost your father. You…” she enveloped her right hand on my shoulder, “—you’re still young. And I could feel that Helios is genuinely attracted to you. Give him a chance.”
I heaved a deep sigh. “Do you think so?” I asked as I met her gaze.
“Of course. There’s no harm in trying. And don’t be afraid to take a risk. So, what if his father killed someone? Besides, we don’t know the other side of the story. We can’t judge people just like that. And when I am working with Don Lincoln—hep, I know that look. We’re not having sex, okay? Since I have debts to him, I gave him some of my salary as interest. I regret that, sweetie. So, stop shutting me your death glare. We’re just inches apart,” she said and chuckled. “But honestly, they’re kind.”
“I only trust Helios, mom. And, of course, Nana Milky. There’s a part of me that I don’t trust her father. I could still feel his aura during that night, and it sent chills all over my body.”
“But you will meet him later. So, cheer up. Don’t get intimidated. Fight his gazes like how you fight mine,” she said and laughed as she stood up.
“Anyway, call Helios. I don’t have nice dresses. Almost are revealing, and I know you hate it. Not unless you want to try?” she teased.
I rolled my eyes. “No, mom. Thank you,” I replied and left her room.
Guess I have no choice but to ask for help from him. When I got back to my room, I grabbed his phone. Yeah, his phone is still in my possession. I dialed his number. The perk of a billionaire, he’s phone never runs out of load.
In just three rings, he picked up.
“Did you miss me that fast—”
“Stop assuming, Hel. I don’t have any dresses. Would you mind if I—”
“I’ll send the driver to pick you up,” he replied abruptly.
I frowned. “I didn’t even finish my—”
“I get it, baby. You don’t have to worry. And please, get back to my house. It’s lonely when you’re not there,” he said. His voice is calm and soft.
I chuckled. “Nana Milky is there—”
“I can’t kiss nor hug, Nana.”
“What? Are you being serious? You can kiss her—”
“On the lips? Grr, that’s disgusting.”
I burst into laughter. I could picture his reaction and will find it adorable.
“Whatever. I will wait for the driver. And don’t worry, I will go back—”
“Rea—” He didn’t finish his words when I ended the call.
It serves him. He doesn’t even let me finish talking.
I smiled as I put down his phone. He’s really something. His small actions made him adorable, yet sometimes he’s annoying.
However, I wonder what we will gonna talk about after dinner. Why does he even tell me not to hate him?
Did he do something wrong?
Why would I hate him?
I shook my head. Helios is really killing me in bafflement sometimes. He’s really annoying.
But I admit, he’s unique. He can make me mad at the same time, tamed when I’m with him.
If only I could teach my heart, I would accept his proposal right away. But things won’t go that way so easily. We need to build a foundation to have a strong connection with each other.
