Sold To A Billionaire novel Chapter 24

Zoe’s POV
“Zoe…!”
I heard my mother’s voice as she called my name.
“I’ll be there in a minute, mom!” I yelled back as I put on my shirt.
I decided to take a shower after I came back from work. And also see mom, who’s ready for work. But until now, she’s still not leaving. I wonder why.
I climbed downstairs and frowned when I saw her holding my phone.
“This keeps on ringing, and it shows Helios. However, I didn’t dare to answer it. I don’t want you to get upset because you look UPSET,” she said and gave stressed the word: upset.
I pressed my lips and reached for my phone. Mothers really know best.
“What happened again, Zoe?” she asked. Guess she smelled misunderstanding again.
I shook my head and smiled. “Nothing, mom. Don’t worry about me. It’s just that I am not really comfortable staying at his house,” I replied; much to say, I lied.
“Zoe,” my mom walked towards me as she grabbed her bag from the coffee table, “you’re still young and confused. But when you feel it, why don’t you give it a try?”
I coughed and let out a soft chuckle. “Mom… what are you talking about? This is not about love—”
“I didn’t mention love, but you said it. This means you like him or…” she smiled at me, “—you already love him.”
I laughed. “Love is not to be felt that easy.”
“Who knows? There is love at first sight, love at first touch, love at first misunderstanding… who knows when will this love—”
“Mom, with all due respect. I don’t want to talk about it. Helios and I are fine. Also, love may find in anything, but you should know that elite people are not meant for us… the poor,” I said and walked towards the kitchen. I badly needed to drink cold water.
“Okay!” mom exclaimed, making me look back at her. “Fine, I will not meddle nor get myself attached to your business, sweetie. You’re a big girl now, so I know you can do it. But if you needed me, you knew I’m always here,” she said and winked at me.
I smiled and gestured a flying kiss to her. “Take care, mom.”
I heard her soft laugh soon as she left the apartment.
I heaved a deep sigh as I walked toward our tiny fridge and grabbed a bottle of water.
I shook my head. “Why do I have to think of him? Chloe is a perfect girl while I am just a rug,” I let out as I opened the lid of the bottle and drank up.
They are meant for each other.
I was about to put down my phone on the side when it started to ring again.
I puffed my cheeks and breathed out. I gritted my teeth as I picked up the call.
“Yes?”
“Where are you?”
I frowned when I heard his deep and cold voice. I sat on the old one-seater sofa and leaned my back as I looked at the ceiling.
“Home.”
“Get out.”
I arched my brow. “Why?”
“Get out, and let’s—”
“I’m sleepy—”
“Your mother just told me that you’re in the kitchen—”
“Where are you?” I stood up and walked towards the door.
“Outside of your doorstep—”
I dropped the call, opened the door, and yelled at him. “What the hell are you doing here?!”
Helios put down his phone and pierced his eyes on me. “We need to talk,” he said firmly.
“Talk about what?” I asked as I arched my brow.
“About us.”
I laughed, but I know he was hard-headed, so I stepped to the side and motioned him to get in.
I closed the door and walked toward our small living room. I sat across from him and put down my phone—his phone since he only let me borrow it.
“Speak.”
“Why did you run away? I told you we’re going to have dinner outside after—”
“Are you not thinking? Chloe was there. She just got home and visited you. I pay respect, Helios. You should have—”
“I don’t fucking care about Chloe. So, what if she just got home?”
I laughed, but sarcasm filled it. “Can’t you sense it? The girl likes you. And based on how she kissed and hugged you….” I bit my lower lip. Damn, I don’t want to sound jealous. I shook my head. “Just get out, and I’m off to bed.”
“Are you jealous because she—”
I laughed to cut him off. “Don’t be too full of yourself, Helios. We don’t have any relationship—”
“But I love you.”
His words rendered me speechless. It seemed like a bolt of lightning hit my heart, making it thump so fast.
I faked a coughed to clear my throat and smiled awkwardly. “I… I know that. But… we’re not—”
“I don’t want to hear any reasons nor explanations from you, Zoe. Chloe is just my childhood friend. Her father and my father are best friends, but me and Zoe, we’re not that close.”
“So? What do you want me to do or say? That it’s fine if she finds out that you love me?”
“Yes—”
“No!” I shook my head, and I saw his eyes widen. “Please, Helios. I don’t want any controversies. Chloe is a model, am I right?”
He frowned. “How did you know?”
“I searched her name on the internet. She’s the highest-paid model. At that rate, she got many fans. Please, if you get my point. I don’t want her to find out that—”
“Sure. I promise to be more cautious—
“And please, I don’t want to have sex inside your building,” I cut off the hum of his words.
My eyes widened when I realized the words from my mouth.
“Shit,” I mumbled.
“Then we can have sex at my penthouse.”
“Helios!” I yelled, and I didn’t care if the neighborhood would hear it.
“No. Never. I am not going back to your house. I’m sure Chloe will go there—”
“Please…”
I shook my head. “If you want to get my YES, then we shouldn’t get caught.”
“What’s the use of hiding if you’re going to marry me in the end? And I hate hiding you. You’re a woman that I should be proud of,” he said. The more profound thoughts in his words made my heart skip a beat.
I am touched. I can’t help but feel dramatic about it.
I sighed. “It’s too early for the both of us, Helios. We can take time—we must enjoy it. What if we decided to tie the knot but, in the end, you just realize that you don’t love me?”
