Sold To A Billionaire novel Chapter 40

CINDY AND ZOE are waiting for a cab when suddenly an Audi stops in front of them.
Cindy grimaced and looked at Zoe.
Zoe arched her brow and shrugged her shoulders.
They are about to move to the other side when the window on the passenger side opens. Their eyes widened, and Zoe heard Cindy gasp when they saw the person in the driver’s seat.
“Grant?”
Grant smiled at them. “Come on, ladies. I’ll drive you home,” he said, making Cindy arch her brow.
“Are you following us?” Cindy asked.
Grant smirked. “Of course not. This is a coincidence. And if you don’t get in…” he paused and raised his phone, “—I will call Helios right away, Zoe,” he added.
Zoe clenched her fist and walked to the left. She opened the back door.
Cindy was about to follow when Grant stopped her.
“I don’t want to be your driver. At least, you, seat in front,” he said.
Cindy didn’t bother to talk and just rolled her eyes as she got in.
“So, where do you want to go, ladies—”
“Home!” Cindy and Zoe said in unison.
Grant smirked as he maneuvered his car away from the restaurant.
For a few moments, silence filled in inside the car.
“Address?”
Hearing Grant’s voice broke the silence that filled in inside his car.
Cindy was the one who gave it to him.
As for Zoe, she has a bad feeling about Grant. What if he tells it to Helios?
They need to talk.
“I want a peaceful living, Grant. If your presence represents Helios, please, don’t tell where I am,” she said, even if she was not sure.
Grant sighed. “Helios doesn’t know anything about you leaving here. But I knew,” he said, which baffled Zoe.
“Can we talk?”
“Over a drink?” It was Cindy’s cheerful voice when it came to alcohol.
Zoe shook her head. “Please, allow us to talk privately, Cindy, once we get home.”
“All right.”
After that, silence filled in once again. After a couple of minutes, they arrived at Zoe’s place.
Cindy bid goodbye and got back to their apartment, and Zoe saw how Grant followed the figure of Cindy until she vanished from his sigh.
Zoe, who has a stronger instinct about unrequited love, asked Grant. “Do you like her?”
Grant turned to face her. “Does she have a boyfriend?”
Zoe arched her brow. “None. But she likes someone and stops flirting with her. You’re a playboy, Grant,” she said.
Grant let out a soft chuckle. “Am I? As far as I can remember, we’re not close, and I just met you in your bar back in Manhattan.”
It was Zoe’s time to give a snide. “Well, Helios told me,” she said and speaking of who, she needs to talk to Grant about Helios.
“Shall we go upstairs?” Zoe asked as she motioned the direction.
Grant then smiled and nodded.
Grant sat on the couch when they got up while Zoe sat in his opposite direction.
“I will not beat around the bush. What exactly are you doing in Cali, Grant?”
“I have a business here. So as Helios—”
“So, are you talking that this is a coincidence?”
Grant heaved a deep sigh. “Fine. I tell the truth. Helios is searching for you. He ordered me to look after you.”
“You told him?”
Grant waved his hand. “No. No. I told him that I couldn’t locate him. That it seems like someone is hiding you. When in fact, that’s me. However, sooner or later, Helios might find out that I am hiding something from him.”
Zoe sighed in relief upon hearing Grant’s explanation.
“I’m begging you, Grant. Please don’t tell Helios my location.”
Grant nodded. “You can count on me. Besides, I want to teach that cousin of mine a lesson.”
Zoe frowned.
“You knew his father, right? And your situation right now is because of Uncle.”
Zoe nodded.
“I will not hide anything from you, and I am willing to help if you ask for my aide. Don Lincoln is a mafia boss, and Helios is the next on the throne.”
Zoe will not be surprised about this because the first time that she set her eyes on Helios… when he bought her, she already knew that his family was powerful.
“The old man wants Helios to marry a powerful clan just like them,” Zoe said.
Grant sighed and nodded. “That’s how dangerous—”
“I don’t care about it, Grant. Nothing is going on between us. All I want you to do is keep your mouth shut. Please…” Zoe met his gaze. “I am begging. Don’t ever tell my whereabouts to Helios.”
Grant nodded. “Yes. However, if he was the one who would work and was the one who finds you… I’m sorry, but I’m afraid I can’t help you at that moment.”
Zoe smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “It’s okay. At least, keep it a secret for now. Besides, he will get married sooner—”
“He’s planning to call off his engagement to Chloe,” Grant interrupted, making Zoe’s eyes widen.
“B-But why?”
Grant scoffed and shook his head. “I bet you know the answer, Zoe.”
“H-He can’t do that….”
Grant stood up, making Zoe lift her face. “Nothing is impossible if Helios is determined enough to do things. Never underestimate his strength nor his power,” he said. “Anyway, nice seeing you, Zoe. Don’t worry. I will help you.”
Zoe heaved a sigh of relief and stood up. “Thank you, Grant. I don’t know how to repay you, but—”
“It’s nothing. I need to go,” he said and turned his back away from Zoe.
Zoe then followed him to the door and waved goodbye soon as Grant stepped out of the apartment.
After a few moments, Zoe entered her room and took a warm shower. Afterward, she lay down on her bed while her gaze was fixed on the ceiling.
She keeps on sighing as she remembers Helios.
Why would he cancel his engagement?
Chloe is the perfect girl for him. She came from a wealthy family, was a famous model, was gorgeous, and even kind. Compared to her, Zoe is just a speck of small dust.
She doesn’t deserve to be with an elite family… to Helios Lincoln.
