The person crouching at the entrance was Jane Sheen.
Half a month ago, Jane was thrown to the top of the mountain and beaten up under Lily's orders until she was hanging onto her last breath. Then, Lily took away her only debit card. That night, Jane thought she was at death's doors.
She lay curled up alone at the top of the mountain, surrounded by the call of wild beasts and chirp of birds in the night. But at that moment, Jane was not afraid anymore. She was going to die anyway, what else was there to be afraid of? Laying on the top of the mountain, when she was in so much pain she could barely open her eyes, Alex no longer came to mind.
That's right!
He never promised her anything. He only treated her like a servant. He was just a kind man who was very nice to his servants. That’s why he brought her along when he left the house, giving her the false impression that she was someone important, when in fact, she was still just a servant. Even the money that h e gave her was saved under his real girlfriend’s password. She believed the next day once the bank opened for business, the million dollars or so that she saved up would be taken by his real girlfriend. Then, she really couldn't survive.
Laying on the top of the mountain, Jane was also
reminded of Sabrina. But at the thought that Sabrina was still in danger, her life still hanging in the balance, how could she go to her for help? Not to mention the fact that Sabrina could barely help herself now, even if Sabrina wanted to help her, but she did not even have her phone with her, how could she ask her for help?
At the thought of Sabrina, Jane would be reminded of Sabrina's little daughter. The little girl was still so young and yet she already knew how to take care of others. She had yet to take out the monstrous doll that the little girl gifted to her.
"Aino...Aino, you're a great child. Will I ever see you again?” Jane was trembling from the cold, instinctively curling up into a tighter ball, looking around her from side to side, trying to locate a warmer spot. In the dark, she successfully spotted one. It was a crack in the cliff. Amongst the shifting shadows, Jane even spotted a few bushes. Bushes!
Jane was delighted. She struggled to heave herself upright and crawled toward the cliff. It was merely a few steps away, but it took her more than half an hour to crawl there. There were indeed bushes, and above the bushes was a man-made shade. What delighted her the most was the wild fruits growing on the bushes. Did someone live here before? They must have been camping here, on an adventure in the mountains. With these, Jane would be able to survive through the night.
That night, tears flowed continuously down Jane's
cheeks.
When the sky brightened with random streaks of sunlight, the pain no longer wrecked her body, but she was still weak. Beneath her were a few pieces of wild fruit and half a packet of mushy biscuits. Even though they were already stale, Jane ate with relish. After finishing the biscuits, she ate the fruits and finally felt strength returning to her. Just like that, she slowly stumbled and fumbled and made her way down the mountain.
When she got to the foot of the mountain, it was already the third day.
Jane was unfamiliar with South City, if she did not come to South City with Alex to help Sebastian, she usually spent most of her time in Kidon City. That was why in South City, she did not even know north from south.
