She hasn't seen him in days. His brows were knitted together to form a deep line on his forehead, his voice alone told her just how exhausted he was. "Sabrina, I... didn't want to stay in Kidon City so I came back here t o South City. I haven't gone back to my place yet, I just wanted to check with you if Jane has..."
Alex wasn't suspicious regarding who Sabrina had been on the phone with earlier. He simply thought of going to Sabrina, because he knew that Jane would contact Sabrina if she was really left with no choice. Sabrina had been the one woman that Jane liked the most before.
"Mr. Poole." Sabrina cleared her throat and asked," Did...did you see Lily for the past few days you spent i n Kidon City?"
He nodded. "I did, but I've completely severed all ties with her, Sabrina. To be honest, we have been broken u p for ten years now, haven't we? She has nothing to do with me!"
Sabrina nodded. "I know, Mr. Poole, I know." She paused for a split second before continuing, "Listen to me, Mr. Poole, I feel like...Lily might have crossed the line with her actions so far, but it seems that she did it all simply because she loves you...it's possible that she sent people to beat Jane up time after time only because she loves you too much..."
Alex cut her off. "What are you trying to say, Sabrina?" "Actually...actually, Mr. Poole...Jane has always known you...Having been with you for so many years, she has always known that you have never loved her, s o she...maybe...maybe...she..." Sabrina summoned up the courage and blurted out, "Jane doesn't love you either!"
Alex stayed silent.
"What's the point of looking for her if the two of you don't love each other? Isn't it good enough to go your separate ways, start fresh and carry on with your lives?"
"No! She loves me, Jane loves me!"
"But...you don't!"
Alex was instantly rendered speechless by Sabrina's objection, not knowing how to argue with her point. H e grabbed onto Sabrina and asked over and over again, "You know where Jane is, don't you? Do you know where she is?"
"I really don't know, Mr. Poole, I would have run to Jane had I known where she was. I just gave it some thought and realized that this might just be the best ending there is. After all, you don't love her, and she knows that. Otherwise, why wouldn't she come to you for help despite being pregnant with your child? Do you know what I did six years ago? Six years ago, the moment I found out that the unborn child in me belonged to Sebastian, I did everything I could and risked getting killed to stop him from getting married. But what about Jane? She knows that she is pregnant with your child and that should have been her best leverage, but she didn't come to you."
Alex still did not say anything.
"Mr. Poole, I think you need to cool your head right now. You used to love Lily, and you have loved her over a decade now, haven't you? So maybe the person you love most from the bottom of your heart is still Lily Parker. If you want to get back together with her, Mr. Poole, I won't blame you. I would give you my blessing. If you and Lily plan to organize a wedding, Sebastian and I will be sure to participate as guests," she said earnestly. Sabrina knew that there was no right or wrong in love. Perhaps Lily just loved Alex too much to the point that she couldn't tolerate Jane's existence, and hence resorted to violence against her.
However, what Sabrina wasn't aware of was that her words cut deeply into Alex’s heart, especially when she told him not to look for her anymore because Jane didn't love him. Jane didn't love him? How could that be possible? No one knew better than Alex as to how much Jane loved him.
Jane was an extremely timid woman, and was particularly scared of seeing living things that were soft and spineless.
