Alex's ears immediately perked up. "What... What did you just say?"
Barely capable of containing his excitement, Garrett said, "Master, I saw her in one of the ocean-side towns, but I'm about a thousand and five hundred kilometers away from you."
"I'm coming over right now!"
"Okay..."
"Hang on!"
"Yes, Master?"
"Do not disturb her!"
"I understand, Master!"
After hanging up, Alex immediately shouted, "Andrew, start driving!"
Andrew swiftly started the engine. The car drove off and stopped after moving a few meters forward. Alex came out of the car and handed the dumbfounded man a pile of cash. "Be good to your pregnant wife!" He then turned around and left.
The couple remained stunned. After a split moment, the pregnant woman muttered, "Hubby, am... Am I dreaming?" "Two hundred thousand..."
The two looked forward again but the car had already disappeared into the distance.
After a day and a night of driving, Alex finally arrived at the ocean-side town that was closest to Kidon City i n the three provinces of the north-eastern area. Upon their arrival, Alex could not help but feel impressed. "S o close. She had been this close to me the entire time?"
This town that was situated at the Boa Ocean Bay was called Biverfront City. The driving distance from Riverfront City to Kidon City was merely three hundred kilometers, even if they were to take the long way. If one was to draw a direct line between the two cities for sailing distance, it would be a rough estimate of a hundred and fifty kilometers in distance. Never had Alex thought that Jane would be i n this little city.
Indeed, Jane, Noah, and Noah's mother had only just arrived in the city. After her phone conversation with Sabrina, Jane realized what Alex wanted and the fact that he would never let her go in peace. After the call, Jane went back to where she lived with Noah and his mother and bid her farewell to the two. "Mom, Noah, I can't stay here anymore. I can't drag you down with m e. Let's be a family again in our next lives. I need to go."
"My sweet girl, why are you doing this?" the old mother cried.
Jane gave her a bitter smile and explained, "I don't want to lie, Mom, I... I was on the wrong path before. The man I was with was never really my man. He was just in it for the fun and I let him toy with me willingly because I was drawn to his wealth. Then... That man's wife came back and he chased me out. After that, his wife recruited a few men and wanted to kill me. I only survived before Noah saved me. I think that man knows that I'm not dead and he... He keeps trying to kill me. He is powerful, and he won't stop until he sees my corpse. Therefore, I can't bring you and Noah down with me, Mom. Noah should go find a good job a t one of the construction sites here in town, earn some savings, and find another down-to-earth woman to live with." 1
Tears started streaming down her face as she spoke. She wanted to spend her days with Noah and she would not even care if she had to spend the rest of her days in poverty. She enjoyed it, and she felt grounded. However, things never worked out the way she wanted. Jane thought it through, and realized that her life had never left the palm of Alex's hand. She did not dare to dream of running for long, and she only wished to give birth to her child and give it away to a family that loved children before she could go to Alex t o face her own death.
