"What's wrong?" Sabrina was confused as to why Yvonne looked shocked by what she said.
"Nothing, Sabrina." Yvonne shook her head with a grin. "You were the only one who stood up against Ruth Poole, and the first one to ever reject Master Ryan. It's actually the first time Master Ryan had invited someone in the office for dinner, you know? Who would have thought that he would get rejected? Sabrina, you seem like such a nice girl, I didn't think you had it in you." 2
Yvonne had known since the very first moment she met Sabrina that they would become close friends. She admired Sabrina's innocence and how she kept to herself without speaking too much.
Coincidentally, Sabrina happened to share the same feelings towards Yvonne. She did not have any friends and ever since the day she was released from prison six years ago, she had been caught in a world of dramas and backstabbing. She had never met anyone that would open up to her like Yvonne did, and so she treasured their friendship and treated Yvonne with nothing but sincerity.
"I just want to do my job so that I can make ends meet. Had I not pushed that chair of Ruth back to her, it would have been me who got hurt. Only a complete fool would just sit on their thumbs and let that
happen, don't you think?"
"Of course." Yvonne nodded. "By the way, you really don't want to get dinner with Master Ryan?"
The two stepped out of the elevator and Sabrina responded emotionlessly, "Why would I? I have no intention of being friends with him, let alone marrying him. One dinner with him is going to make me the target of jealousy. I have much better things to do with my time than to deal with that." i
Amused, Yvonne chuckled and agreed. "You're right. If you are not going, then neither am I! Goddesses like us need to remain reserved!" She then lowered her voice t o whisper, "Hopefully playing hard to get can lure Master Ryan into my arms. He might not be as powerful and wealthy as a certain man, but marrying Master Ryan is still kind of a big deal, so it's not that I haven't dreamt of it."
"Pfft..." Sabrina couldn't help but let out a laugh at her playful tone and whispered back, "I wish you luck on your conquest of mesmerizing Master Ryan, then."
"Duh!"
The two continued to chat cheerfully until they had arrived at the front desk. Right before they were going their separate ways, Yvonne turned around and reminded her. "Sabrina, if the Director asks you to stay, please consider staying. I would love to be colleagues with you." 1 "I will be sure to consider it, it's not easy to find a job with a decent pay, after all," Sabrina reassured.
Indeed, she had no fear of gossip. Regardless of the working environment, she didn't care as long as she could work. After going her separate ways with Yvonne, Sabrina arrived at the Director's office.
"Oh, Sabrina, come in and take a seat..." The Design Director's tone took a 180 degree turn in comparison t o a few days ago. "You are new here, so I wanted you t o spend some time getting used to the working environment around here before I can figure out where you fit best. Who knew Ruth would..."
"It's alright, Director. I'm here only to ask about the ten thousand I was promised." Sabrina cut to the chase and asked. She needed the money. It was precisely because of the lack of money that up until this day, she had yet to find her way back home to visit her mother's grave. Besides, she did not consider it her responsibility to clean up after Linda. 1
The Director was a sensible person and immediately offered, "How about this, Sabrina? As long as you promise to stay, eight thousand dollars of Linda's monthly pay will go directly to you. So you will be getting the ten thousand that was promised within a year, how is that?" 1
"Do you truly want me to stay, Director?" Sabrina remained composed.
"Why, of course!" The Director responded enthusiastically. "I saw what you can do. Not only can you draw up a good blueprint, but I have witnessed your ability in risk management and problem-solving. I would be a fool to let go of a talented employee like you! Sabrina, I assure you that there is plenty to gain from your employment here if you choose to stay.
How does an increment of five thousand in your monthly pay sound?"
