The family had all arrived, and what was once a spacious master bedroom now felt like it was bursting at the seams.
Henry was bawling, desperately reaching for his mom, but Leo held onto him, letting him cry it out while smothering him with kisses. Henry's temper flared up, reminiscent of his mom's fiery nature, and his tiny fists clenched in frustration.
Worried that his crying would become a habit, the family tried to remain indifferent whenever Henry threw a fit.
Naomi pulled back the curtains to check how much light was coming through. She picked up the sheer drapes and immediately shot a smile at Anya. Without a single word, Anya's cheeks turned a rosy pink.
Bruce took a seat in his son's chair, feeling the comfort. He ran his hands over the stack of books, noting there were even more than the last time.
Looking at the bedding and the full-length mirror in the room, Molly told Leo, “Take good care of Anya. Having a girlfriend seems to have really settled you down.”
Mia emerged, saying, “The way Leo has decorated this place, it’s all Anya’s doing. The pink soap dish in the bathroom, the white toothbrush holders on the wall, and all these wall decorations,” Mia pointed around, “must have been chosen by Anya. Don’t ask me how I know. A guy wouldn’t be this meticulous, nor would he keep everything so neat and tidy. I visited Cooper’s bachelor pad a few days ago, and it was like stepping into a typical guy’s bedroom. Guys tend to settle for the basics, and their shopping colors rarely stray from black, gray, and blue.”
This was Leo's first time renting a place on his own. Being quite the traditional man, he wasn’t one for fussing over details. To him, a rental was just a cheaper alternative to a hotel, a place to sleep, nothing more.
But girls are different; they need their living space to be comfortable. Once it’s comfortable, they want it to be refined, and once it’s refined, they want it to be full of life... They’re never satisfied, always wanting to buy various things to fill every nook and cranny.
Hansen nodded, “All thanks to our Anya.”
Leo, holding a now-exhausted Henry who had given up crying, stood beside Anya, “I just did the heavy lifting; all of this was indeed added by Anya.”
Bruce also nodded in agreement, “Anya has really put her heart into this.”
Naomi exclaimed, “I was thinking of getting something for Leo myself, but I'm glad I didn’t. I could never have matched Anya’s attention to detail.”
Anya blushed at the family's praise. “I didn’t do much, just couldn’t stop shopping online. Chad even teases me about almost buying out the entire online store.”
Speaking of this, Leo wanted to vent, “I received more than twenty parcels in three days, my car's trunk was always full. And she doesn’t even throw away the packaging boxes, saying we could sell them for money.”
Hansen spoke up for his future granddaughter-in-law, “Anya’s right. Throwing them away would just create trash, but collecting them could be exchanged for money. You’ve never experienced hardship. In my youth, during those tough times, people would sift through garbage for bottles and boxes to sell for a living.”
Naomi added, “Exactly. Our parents went through those poor times too. Now that we have money, you look down on the few dollars earned from selling scrap.”
For some reason, even though the conversation was about praising Anya and chiding him, Leo didn’t mind; he was even happier.
Mrs. Andre, always curious, asked her father, “Dad, did my husband experience poverty?”
Hansen remembered clearly, “Your husband was born into poverty.”
Mia was about to sympathize with her husband when Hansen added, “Too bad our family wasn’t poor.”
Mia immediately withdrew her sympathy.
Henry yawned in Leo’s arms, and Leo placed him on the plush couch Anya had bought, letting him play by himself.
Henry: “…”
Suddenly, Leo snapped his fingers at Henry, and the drowsy Henry immediately giggled, struggling to turn over and crawl into Leo’s arms by himself.
Seeing Leo’s roommates, who all seemed like decent folks, Chad felt reassured.
