Nancy's eyelashes swept up as she looked into Charles's eyes intently. Then she asked, "Charles, what else do you think I can give you except this?"
Charles growled aloud, "You...!" Seizing the armrests of the wheel chair firmly, Charles breathed heavily to calm his nerves. He had not been this angry for a long time. He stopped himself from saying aloud something that might hurt Nancy. So he kept quiet.
He knew Nancy was eager for his consent and he also knew she would never accept that verbally. She was pretending to return Charles the favor. But the truth was far from that.
Nancy never once strayed her eyes from Charles. "Are you doubting me, Charles? All I’m telling is the truth," Nancy coaxed flatly.
"Nancy, I'm cent percent confident about your words that you did not mean that in any way," Charles countered in a perturbed tone. His eyes turned cold as he looked at her with a knitted frown.
"Our feelings aren't mutual Charles. All I want is a peaceful and uneventful life where I'm happy the way I want," Nancy implied softly.
"I can give you that as well, Nancy."
"No, you cannot Charles!" Nancy refused to believe his dry words. "Charles, we both are adults. We can't be impulsive anymore. We are looking for a quiet and uneventful life because that is what we need. We do not need a grand lifestyle to be happy from heart,"
Nancy said all of that calmly before she left the room.
People get hurt from that one person easily whom they love with all their heart and passion.
They aren't afraid to go heaven and hell with that one person by their side.
But, when it comes to living life with their dear ones, they get sensitive and get hurt easily.
The only people who live comfortably on earth are the ones who don't know what love is.
This is the actual truth of life.
With dark eyes, Charles watched Nancy leaving the room. He had become both fierce and wise in the walks of his life. How could he then give up so easily based on some petty words from her?
He had always got what he wanted. And this time also, it wouldn't differ.
The next morning while Nancy was cleaning Charles's body she informed him, "Charles, the director asked me to have a look at the special patient who got admitted in the department recently. As you've recovered, I think you're alright now. So, I'd like to go back to work."
Charles nodded understandingly. "Well, that's alright. When are you going to finish your work? I'll ask the driver to pick you up," he inquired.
"Oh, don't bother. Because I have plans after work. My mother called me recently. She's missing me greatly and wanted to see me. So, I'm going to visit her. I'm sorry I can't come over. Plus, I'm busy with something else." Although it wasn't half-truth, Nancy made up an excuse to avoid Charles.
"What is it that's keeping you busy?" Charles looked up at her questioningly.
Nancy bit the inside of her cheeks before answering him, "I'm busy with my major. I have to prepare some papers. You know that I really want to finish my major with good grades. But for the past few days, I was always busy caring for you. Looking after your injury had me so exhausted! Unlike you, you can manage your work while being at home. But for my major, it's more of a practical than theoretical."
Charles frowned but nodded thoughtfully. "Okay, I understand. Besides, I'm also kind of busy. My grandfather called me and informed me that he has a new project to discuss with me. He wants me to go abroad and deal with it. You focus on your work for now. I will be back soon."
Wow! That was unexpected, but great nonetheless.
Nancy was happy after learning Charles was going away.
"Okay. Have a safe journey." Nancy smiled at him.
"Truthfully, I wanted to take you with me. But then my mother and the other two kids are here at home. I want you to take good care of them," Charles blurted his worry to her helplessly.
"Don't worry about them. I'll take good care of them."
Charles nodded then sat up straight and then opened his arms.
"What are you doing?" Nancy, although aware, she wanted to hear from him.
"A goodbye hug. What? Aren't you willing?" Charles raised his eyebrows a little hurt. He was expectant of her consent.
Nancy shook her head with a small smile on her face. Then she came over and hugged him.
"Remember to miss me!" Charles whispered in her ear with his sly and charming tone.
"I am too busy to remember something so trivial. Goodbye Charles." Nancy stepped back, still smiling. Then she bowed her head and walked out from there promptly.
Charles wondered whether he could hug her again when he came back.
Nancy sent the two kids to the kindergarten before going to work in the hospital.
The day rolled by in a hurry. Just before she was about to call it a day, she received a call from Angelina.
It was unexpected and a little strange.
However, Nancy answered the call. "Mrs. Fu, what can I do for you?"
