Athena removed the heart–shaped pendant from her neck, something she had never taken off before. It was a cherished possession, and Bree had often asked for it, but Athena always refused.

Now, she was giving her most treasured gift to Sheila. The heart–shaped pendant opened into two, with a picture of Athena on one side and a picture of Sheila and Alpha Nick on the other.

It was the only picture they had taken together on their wedding day, a moment Athena held dear and kept close to her heart, never revealing the secret the pendant held.

Afraid that Sheila would reject it, Athena made sure not to reveal the second layer. “I want you to always keep

this with you.”

Knowing the pendant’s significance to Athena, Sheila was reluctant to accept it. “Ma’am, this pendant means so

much to you.”

Athena gestured for her to sit on the bed, and Sheila reluctantly complied, Athena clasped the golden chain of the pendant around her neck.

“That’s why I want you to have it. If you don’t take it, then you have to promise me that you will stay.”

Feeling cornered, Sheila couldn’t refuse. Her eyes teared up as she spoke. “Ma’am, thank you very much. I will always keep this with me.”

A satisfied smile appeared at the corner of Athena’s lips. “That is exactly what I want to hear. So, where are you going? I can buy you a house. Has my son settled you well enough?”

She was worried that Sheila would not be well taken care of. If her son had not provided for her adequately, Athena was determined to make him fulfill his obligation.

Sheila was moved by all the love and care shown to her by Athena since she married Alpha Nick and even after the divorce. It was because of Athena that she couldn’t hate Alpha Nick or the pack in any way.

“Ma’am, please don’t worry about me. I’m really fine, seriously.” She didn’t want Athena to insist on it, as she had rejected everything given to her, including her belongings.

Thinking about the sacrifices and efforts she had put in to win Alpha Nick’s heart, Sheila felt her heart tighten her chest. Unrequited love was a very painful and lonely journey with no expectation of when it would end.

“If you say so, but make sure you always call me, or I will come looking for you,” Athena warned seriously, and Sheila knew she meant every word.

She never intended to break the relationship between her and Athena in any way. “Perhaps you will be the one to get tired of my calls.”

Athena smiled at her remark. “That will never happen.” She knew that she would never have enough of Sheila and would continuously miss her.
