"Brittany, get your butt to the hospital ASAP. William’s condition has gone south!"
Hannah Chester's voice came over the phone. Brittany snapped to attention, shooting up from her bed, "I'm on it."
Isaac, roused by the commotion, rubbed his sleepy eyes, "What's up?"
"William's not doing so good; I’m going to see him."
Isaac sat up too, "I'm coming with you."
Brittany freshened up in a hurry, threw on some comfy cotton clothes, and she and Isaac bolted out the door.
Once in the car, Brittany's anxiety was palpable.
Isaac's driving was always steady, it was only a half-hour ride to the hospital, but she kept pushing him, "Zakky, step on it."
Brittany was a bundle of nerves, clenching her fists and thinking how did he get this sick out of the blue?
She thought back to the car accident, guilt and worry washing over her, oblivious to Isaac's puzzled expression.
The car sped up, and twenty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital. Brittany hustled into the building with Isaac hot on her heels.
"Slow down."
The hospital was bustling in the morning, and with Brittany pregnant, who would be responsible if something happened?
Brittany seemed not to hear him; her mind was only on William.
Isaac hurried to keep up when his phone rang. It was Derek Bishop.
Did something go wrong with their business deal?
Isaac hesitated for a second, but Brittany was already on the elevator, and he missed it.
Upon reaching the ICU, the Dillion couple was livid at the sight of Brittany.
Mrs. Dillion was on the verge of lunging at her, but Lionel Chester stepped in, "Mrs. Dillion, cool it."
William's father, supporting his wife, shot a dark look at Brittany, "If anything happens to my son, you'll pay!"
Brittany stood behind Lionel, with guilt written all over her face.
Mrs. Dillion was a wreck, she suddenly blacked out, and William's father had to help her out.
Hannah, noticing Brittany's pale face, hurried over, "You okay?"
"I'm fine." Brittany shook her head, "Wasn't William okay last night? How did it get this bad?"
"He's got an infection at the wound."
Because of his amputation, the doctors were worried about an infection and took extra precautions, but it still happened.
