Isaac remained silent, his thoughts unreadable. 

Upon learning of her miscarriage, Brittany had cried inconsolably and refused to eat. It was only when Isaac, nursing his own wounds, nearly fainted from worry that she reluctantly agreed to have some food. 

Lionel brought over some homemade soup, feeling his heart ache at the sight of Brittany’s sudden frailty overnight. 

He set down the insulated container and ladled out a bowl for each of them. “I’ve heard about what happened. It was all so sudden, no one could’ve predicted it. The important thing now is to focus on your recovery.” 

Brittany was nearly catatonic, taking the soup and drinking it down without a word. Her eyes seemed distant, unable to taste anything as she mechanically sipping the warm 

soup. 

Lionel’s heart ached even more. He stayed at the hospital for over half an hour, trying to comfort the couple. 

He also brought some unsettling news. “The incident at the party has caught the media’s attention, causing quite a stir. Grandeur Capital’s stock has plummeted, and the police are investigating the matter.” 

Joie’s actions were truly baffling. 

She managed to evade Isaac’s security, sneak into the Salter Manor, and even commit an assault in public. 

Brittany’s curiosity was sparked. “What did the police say?” 

“They haven’t figured it out yet. But Joie had been in contact with Leda.” 

The police had uncovered that connection and had taken Leda in for questioning. 

If they confirmed Leda’s involvement in the incident, she wouldn’t be able to escape justice.

Lionel had been married for a while, and his wife was expecting. He had taken a break from work to be by her side.

Brittany was aware of Moon Barton’s pregnancy and nodded subconsciously. “Okay.” 

After Lionel left, Brittany rested her hands on her now-flat belly, lost in silence for a long

Returning home, Lionel found Moon amid a sea of paperwork, her pregnant belly prominent. A powerhouse of a woman, pregnancy hadn’t slowed her down. 

“Back from the hospital? How’s Bri doing?” Moon asked without looking up from her work. 

“She’s physically okay, just emotionally down from the loss,” Lionel replied as he made a glass of milk for Moon. “You shouldn’t overwork yourself with the baby coming.” 

Moon offered a faint smile, “I can’t afford to slow down. There’s a project I’m keen on, and I need to wrap it up soon.” 

Her due date was at the end of the month, and she intended to settle everything before then so she could jump back into work after her maternity leave.
