The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 600

Penelope clung to his shirt, "No, no need, I'll just head home and rest. Ever since my leg 'healed,' it's been giving me trouble. I'm used to it by now."

Lucian looked at her, a mix of doubt and concern in his eyes, "Pen, that leg of yours has been 'recovering' for ages. Still acting up? Maybe the doctor didn't fix it right. How about I get some specialists to take another look? Just to be sure there's no lingering issues."

Penelope's leg was perfectly fine. The whole wheelchair act at the Lindberg estate was just to pile the guilt on Miranda. No way she could agree to another check-up—that would blow her cover.

"No need, really. I'll be fine with some rest at home. Don't worry about me, Lucian."

"Alright, let me drive you home then."

"My maid's right outside, and I've got a driver too. I'll manage on my own." Penelope was desperate to leave before Lucian could dig any deeper and uncover her ruse.

She had to get home and come up with a solid plan.

Penelope hurried Margo inside, quickly said goodbye to Miranda, and had Margo wheel her out of the Lindberg residence.

Back in the living room.

Miranda looked at her son, "Look at you, not even keeping Penelope company. Why did she leave so soon?"

Lucian replied, "Mom, you need to rest and not worry so much. You've been feeling unwell. Focus on taking care of yourself."

"Oh, Lucian, I went to the church this morning and got a blessing for Penelope. Completely slipped my mind to give it to her. Well, next time. Here, I got one for you too." She pulled out a yellow charm with a white jade peace token attached to it.

Lucian took it, "Mom, you shouldn't be out and about if you're not feeling well. The church is too far. You can go when you're better."

"But how can I not? Faith is powerful. All I want is for my son to be healthy and have a smooth life, and for Penelope to give birth to a Lindberg heir soon."
