The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 601

Lacey glanced at Miranda, puzzled. "Mrs. Hamilton, are you okay?"

It took a moment for Miranda to snap out of her daze. "Lacey," she said, her expression unreadable, "tell me, why exactly does Lucian not want to marry Penelope?"

"I wouldn't dare to speculate on Mr. Lucian's thoughts," Lacey replied. "But with his recent struggles to secure his position at Lindberg Corporation and George breathing down his neck, it's no surprise he's got a lot on his mind."

Miranda gave a noncommittal shake of her head and carefully placed Lucian's phone back on the coffee table. She sunk into the couch, looking weighed down by the world. After about ten minutes, Lucian hurried back into the room. Noticing his forgotten phone on the couch, Lacey quipped, "Sir, if you hadn't shown up, I would've had to deliver it straight to your office."

As Lucian picked up his phone and glanced at a new message, Miranda took a sip of her tea and said, "Now that you're here, don't rush off. Stay for dinner. I've asked Lacey to whip up some of your favorites. Your father will be home later, and you two can share a drink."

He looked from his phone to his mother and nodded in agreement, "Sounds good."

Suddenly, Miranda remembered something. "I've still got half a scripture left to copy. I'll get to that." With that, she retreated to her study, a place where she had taken up the practice of transcribing sacred texts over the years.

Lacey followed, tidying up the pages of scripture that were scattered across the desk and sealing the dried copies.

"Could you find Allison's contact information for me?" Miranda requested without looking up from her writing.

"Allison? You mean Ms. Zimmer, the one who saved your father-in-law’s life?" Lacey clarified.
