The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 614

After hanging up the phone, Emma stretched out, trying to ease the stiffness in her neck and shoulders. She tiptoed over to Hughes' bedside. He lay there with his eyes shut, looking quite at peace against the soft pillow. His eyelashes fluttered for a moment.

Emma gently adjusted the blanket over him, turned off the light, and was about to settle on the couch when she felt Hughes' fingers wrap around hers.

She glanced at his hand. "You're awake? Did I wake you?" she asked softly.

Hughes had been resting with his eyes closed but hadn't really fallen asleep. The pain from his wounds was a mix of sharp stabs and dull aches, making it impossible for him to drift off completely. He tried to sit up, wincing as he pressed on the bandage. Emma swiftly steadied him. "Stay still. What do you need?"

A mischievous smile played on Hughes' lips. "Want to give me a hand?"

Emma nodded. She was ready to help with whatever he needed. After all, she had taken care of her grandmother during her hospital stays.

Hughes glanced towards the bathroom and let out a soft whistle. Emma's cheeks flushed as she understood. With a playful eye-roll, she supported his arm and helped him to the bathroom door. Seeing the pale color of his face and the sweat beading on his forehead, she couldn't leave him alone.

Without making a fuss, she guided him inside.

"Hold me steady."

"Can't you manage on your own?"

"Ouch... it hurts..."

"Your hands aren't hurt. What's the problem?"

"Lauren, how can you be so heartless? I mean, I was just..." He cut himself off abruptly, almost saying too much.

But Emma caught on. "Just what? What were you going to say?"
