The Billionaire’s Secret Quartet novel Chapter 1640

Hertha tiptoed over to her mom with a pleasing smile, wrapping her arm around hers. "Mom, he had to take off early. Remember I mentioned he had some things to handle?"

But inside, she was muttering under her breath, Alaric, that unlucky dude, is definitely not my boyfriend.

Right now, he might have stormed out, working at the Crawley Group, but once things settle down, he's expected to take over the family fortune. And the catch? Marrying Georgia!

Raised in luxury, Alaric isn't cut out for a life of simplicity and struggle. He's just not tired of the struggle yet. Once he's had enough, he'll go crawling back to the Falconer family and into his mother's plans.

Hertha had seen this storyline unfold in countless TV shows. Never trust a man, born and raised in opulence, to adapt to a simple, ordinary life for the sake of love.

That's why Hertha wasn't buying Alaric's current confession of love. It was too risky, potentially costing her own happiness and peace of mind. Ever since becoming a mother, the rose-colored glasses of love had gradually lifted from her eyes.

Spencer looked over at Hertha, surprised. He knew the "boyfriend" they were discussing was Alaric. Hertha had always been resistant to Alaric. It was surprising that in such a short time since their meeting, they had progressed to a romantic relationship.

That day, after Alaric ran into him proposing to Emmeline at the restaurant and found out that Hertha and he were not really married, Alaric must have sought Hertha out. At this moment, Spencer finally let go of the last bit of attachment he had for Hertha.

He had spent three years trying to win her over, without success, while she had fallen for Alaric in less than a month. Clearly, she couldn't let go of Alaric, and Spencer realized he shouldn't reserve a place for her in his heart anymore.

Instinctively, he took Emmeline's hand, cherishing their current happiness. With a gentle smile, he asked, "What about Julian and Helena? Didn't they come?"

Hertha had mentioned to Spencer that Julian and Helena were staying with their grandparents. Hertha was equally curious, having wanted to ask the same question but never finding the right moment.

She had worried earlier that the kids might be at home or downstairs playing, fearing Alaric might bump into them and get scared. Now, with everyone aware of her two children, she felt relieved.

Kimberly explained, "They're at home with their granddad. They were napping when I left, and I didn't have the heart to wake them up. It would've been too late."

Understanding dawned on Hertha, and she nodded in relief. Spencer noticed Hertha's expression and pieced together her earlier nervousness when Alaric was around. He realized Hertha hadn't yet told Alaric about the kids.

Spencer stood up with Emmeline, politely excusing themselves to Kimberly, "We should get going. Let you and Hertha have dinner."

Kimberly tried to persuade them to stay, "Oh, but I've already cooked dinner. Why don't you stay and eat before you go?"

Spencer, still smiling, glanced at Emmeline and then back at Kimberly, "I promised her a night out. We're getting married soon and want to enjoy these last moments of courtship."

Emmeline, touched by Spencer's affectionate look, felt enveloped in happiness, sensing sweetness in the air.
