Thalassa rubbed her bleary eyes and asked, "Where are we headed?"
"Just come with me, and you'll see," Lysander teased, a mysterious twinkle in his eye.
"Alright, I'm up!" Thalassa didn't press further, quickly getting out of bed. It was unusual for Lysander to act so mysteriously, and she was eager to go along with it.
Without bothering to change, Thalassa went straight to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face. By the time she was done, Lysander had already picked out an outfit for her. It was a sleek black dress, a bit on the conservative side but still stunning.
"Why black?" Thalassa asked, curious about Lysander's choice.
Lysander, as usual, was dressed in his custom-made black suit, looking no different from any other day except for the black tie that added a new touch. He just smiled and didn't answer Thalassa's question.
After breakfast, Lysander drove them away personally. The journey felt familiar to Thalassa, and sure enough, about an hour later, they pulled up at a cemetery.
Lysander got out and retrieved a bouquet of flowers from the trunk. He was here to pay his respects. Was it for Leopold, given their previous conversation about visiting his grave?
Thalassa didn't voice her question, simply following Lysander. They headed towards Leopold's grave, but Thalassa's certainty wavered when she saw a group of people standing solemnly in front of a different grave, all dressed in black, a clear sign of mourning.
Approaching closer, Thalassa recognized the faces – Joshua, Rosalind, Reginald, Matilda, and even Georgia, standing next to an older couple she didn't recognize but assumed to be Georgia's parents.
Lost in thought, Thalassa was brought back to the moment as Lysander took her hand, leading her towards the Whitman family group. Nerves began to bubble up in Thalassa as she realized why Lysander had brought her here.
Before they even reached the grave, the Whitman family turned to greet them. Joshua was the first to approach, "Lysander, you've come."
"Yes," Lysander replied softly. With Thalassa in tow, he approached the grave, placing the flowers beside the already flower-laden tombstone and bowed deeply in a gesture of respect. Thalassa, following Lysander's lead, bowed solemnly too.
Holding her hand tightly, Lysander introduced Thalassa to the grave's occupant, "Harper, I'd like to introduce you to my wife, Thalassa, your half-sister."
Thalassa's heart skipped a beat at Lysander's introduction, the weight of the moment hitting her unexpectedly. She thought this was just a visit to pay respects to Harper, but Lysander's introduction of her as his wife, and the revelation of their familial connection to Harper, took her by complete surprise.
