The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 594

In the fluorescent-lit corridor on the tenth floor of Lumos Enterprises, the air was thick with the scent of freshly brewed coffee and the quiet hum of office life.

“Something up?” Ronan asked, glancing up from his smartphone.

Cordelia, looking worried, shifted her weight nervously. “Well, I found someone to look after my mom, but they can't get there until around two or three in the afternoon. I just don't feel comfortable leaving her alone, but I’ve got classes. Could you help me out if you’re free?”

“You’re heading to class now?” Ronan raised an eyebrow, silently commenting on her dedication; she was barely out of surgery, after all.

“Didn’t you know? These days, they get you up and moving the very next day,” she said with a playful smile.

Ronan checked his watch, “Sure.”

Lately, Ronan had been different around Cordelia—less teasing, more accommodating, almost like he was trying to make amends.

He owed her.

Ronan went back to his office to gather his things. “We’ll cut today’s meeting short; I have something to take care of,” he announced. “We’ll pick this up tomorrow.”

His phone buzzed with a message from Emerson: [What’s up?]

[Playing babysitter.]

[For who? Cordelia?]

[Who else?]

Emerson couldn’t help but smile at the message, thinking to himself: Serves you right. That’s karma for you!

When Ronan arrived at Cordelia’s place, she was ready to leave, dressed in a white silk blouse and cream-colored palazzo pants, with a coffee-colored wool coat draped over her arm. Her makeup was subtle, but her lipstick added a touch of allure. Ronan felt a jolt of attraction.
