Ian was already convulsing from excruciating pain, his forehead clad in sweat. He nearly blacked out several times.
Matthew's tone was soft, but Ian clearly sensed the malice in it.
"I'll tell you! It's Jeffrey. He wanted me to get rid of you and abduct Rachel. That's all I know."
Abduct Rachel? Matthew was stunned. It made sense that Jeffrey targeted him, but abducting Rachel because of his interest in her was pure atrocity.
Clutching his chest, Ian struggled to endure the pain. "He's in the parking lot right now. But I'm not sure which car he's in. Can I call the ambulance now? I'll die if I wait any longer."
Just then, the noise of tires screeching against the cement floor echoed through the parking lot. 20 yards away, a black sedan sped toward the exit. The sharp, acrid smell of smoke and burnt rubber lingered in the air.
Matthew knew it was Jeffrey's car. Knowing he had no chance of catching up to him, he turned back to his car.
The five other men with metal bats had remained completely silent. They were all gaping at Matthew in horror. It wasn't until Matthew got into his car did they finally breathed a sigh of relief and checked on Ian's condition.
Matthew revved the engine and casually drove toward the exit.
In the car, Rachel only saw Ian collapsing to the ground. She wasn't aware of the dire state he was currently in.
She was perplexed when Matthew left in such a hurry. "Did they just let us go? Those five men didn't attack you at all, though."
Matthew was stunned. Rachel had actually thought Ian spared him—she couldn't even tell who won the fight.
He was at a loss for words.
Those five men were merely ordinary people, and even with their strengths combined, they'd still be weaker than Ian alone. Seeing how Matthew defeated Ian in merely two moves, those five men were absolutely petrified.
Matthew didn't know how to explain ancient martial arts to Rachel. It wasn't like he could go into detail in such a short time as well. So, he merely went along with it.
"Yeah, they got the wrong person."
Realization dawned on Rachel.
"So that's what happened. I was horrified when those men showed up with metal bats. You're no match for them. I was so worried! I wanted to run over them earlier and drag you out of there, but I didn't dare to."
Her boldness certainly caught Matthew off guard.
