Jeffrey challenged, "Do you want to become insolvent and end up in prison?"
Tessa looked uncertain. After much hesitation, she gritted her teeth and said, "Fine, I'll be the witness."
Matthew had been sitting quietly and observing from the side. Hearing Tessa agree, his eyes turned even colder.
The door was kicked open with a bang just then, and a dozen burly men stormed in.
The leader of the group approached Jeffrey and asked, "Mr. Smith, who do you want us to kill?"
Jeffrey pointed at Matthew. "First, break his limbs, then kill him! Only then will I be appeased."
The man, brandishing a knife, walked toward Matthew—but suddenly stopped in his tracks.
He stared at Matthew in shock, not knowing what to do.
Jeffrey was waiting to see Matthew scream in pain. Seeing his lackey not taking action, he angrily shouted, "Why the hell are you not moving?"
Ivan stared at Matthew, his face as pale as a ghost.
Unable to contact the other members of the Red Wolves, he had been looking for a new boss to make money. Someone introduced him to Jeffrey's men along the way, saying there were some lucrative illegal jobs for the taking.
This kind of thing was not new to him, so he agreed without hesitation.
The task that day was a chance to prove himself and show his loyalty. Only, he didn't expect the target to be Matthew.
He was someone Ivan dared not touch.
Seeing Ivan stand rooted in place, Jeffrey scolded furiously, "You piece of shit! Are you chickening out? Get him!"
Ivan's forehead was drenched in sweat. He wanted to leave but was afraid of offending the Smith family. He was essentially stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Matthew glared coldly at Ivan. "You want to kill me?" His voice was soft but carried an intimidating force.
Ivan trembled. "No, I dare not. I'd rather die than do that."
He knew that he was no match for Matthew, even with the help of the dozen men he came with.
