Matthew immediately realized he had been tricked.
Tessa, who never once cared about Lorraine, suddenly showed concern for her daughter. He thought something might have changed in her heart, but it turned out to be a lie.
Matthew felt even more disappointed in Tessa. But since he was already here, he might as well see what Jeffrey wanted.
He walked over to the couch and sat down.
Tessa greeted him with a smile. "You might not know, but this is Mr. Smith, the future heir of Smith Group. Meeting him is the honor of a lifetime for you. Come, I'll pour you a drink so you can toast to him."
Tessa was full of flattery, trying her best to butter Jeffrey up.
In her eyes, even though Matthew might be worth ten billion dollars, he was nothing compared to the colossal Smith Group heir. Matthew wasn't even worth mentioning in Jeffrey's presence.
Provoking the Smith family was like asking for death. She assumed Matthew would never dare to anger Jeffrey. That was why she had the audacity to speak like that.
Matthew's face darkened. "Just one drink? How about I toast him with two bottles instead?"
Two bottles? Wasn't this a power play?
Tessa understood the implication of Matthew's words and looked at him in shock. "Y-You can't speak to Mr. Smith like that. Do you know the consequences of angering him?"
Matthew shrugged. He clearly didn't seem to understand.
Tessa quickly apologized to Jeffrey. "I'm sorry. I didn't expect him to be so disrespectful. He must've been in prison too long and is unaware of your identity. Otherwise, he wouldn't dare disrespect you."
Jeffrey accepted a glass of red wine from the beautiful woman beside him and drank it in one gulp. He then set the glass down and challenged, "Do you think a lion cares about the attitude of a mouse?"
Tessa eased up. "Mr. Smith, not only are you young and accomplished, but you're also magnanimous."
