Austin snapped, "What's wrong? Do you think my life isn't worth 300 million dollars?"
Realizing Austin had gotten the wrong idea, Lance quickly grabbed the phone and prepared the medicine.
…
At the Carter residence, Rachel brought a bowl of chicken noodle soup to Fred. "This is good for your health, Grandpa. Try some."
Fred took the bowl and put it aside. Seeing Rachel's troubled expression, he asked, "Did something happen?"
Rachel sighed. "There are two things. Uncle Malcolm brought his bodyguards, but they won't listen to me. I don't know what is he up to.
"Then, there's the Smith family giving us a hard time. I suspect that they are after the Carters' businesses."
Fred hummed in acknowledgment. "Don't worry about Malcolm. As long as I'm around, he can't cause any trouble. But regarding the Smith family, do you have any reason for your suspicion?"
Rachel put up one finger. "The Smiths made their fortune by taking over other families. The older generations call them the barbaric raiders. They've been silent for close to 30 years, but the Smiths won't change their predatory ways."
Fred's expression changed drastically. "It's my oversight, and they might have ill intentions now. This will be big trouble."
Rachel looked cold and shrewd. "The only advantage we have now is that the Smith family doesn't know you've fully recovered. They believe the Carter family is falling apart. Maybe that's why they see an opportunity."
Fred nodded. "Just act submissive and play along. Don't confront them outright. I'll step in and take care of it at the end."
Upon hearing Fred's words, Rachel felt more confident. "Got it."
After wrapping up the important matters, Fred beamed and asked, "How are things going between you and Matthew?"
Rachel blushed. "It's the same as always."
Fred seemed displeased. "Is it Matthew who's not making an effort, or is it you?"
