Brandon made a beeline for the elevator, heading straight to the underground parking garage.
Marian trailed right behind him, clueless about what Brandon wanted from her and not daring to pry. But seeing his stone-cold face made her a bundle of nerves. Yet, despite the jitters, she couldn't let go of this chance to have a one-on-one with Brandon.
This was her first time getting a solo call-up by Brandon.
So there Marian was, a nervous wreck, yet couldn't help feeling a tiny buzz of excitement.
Brandon didn't utter a word the whole way, just fished out his car keys and beeped the car open.
"Get in."
He said it flat, already striding towards the car.
Marian was a bit taken aback, her surprise tinged with a hint of delight.
"Mr. Crawley, did you need something from me?"
She couldn't help but ask as she walked towards the black Cayenne, pulling open the passenger door.
Brandon, having opened the driver's side door, turned to see her opening the passenger side and pointed straight to the back seat. "Back seat."
Marian looked a tad awkward. "Sitting in the back doesn't feel right. It's like I'm treating you as the chauffeur."
"It's not about what's right or wrong." Brandon's response was indifferent. "Just sit in the back."
"Oh." Marian replied, a bit deflated, but obediently opened the back door and settled in.
"Mr. Crawley, where are we heading?"
As Brandon started the engine, Marian couldn't resist asking.
"I need to talk to you about something."
"What's that?"
"You'll know when we get there."
